What’s sowing on at the farm? We’re getting a ridiculously early start! 🌱🧪

Big news from the farm (and the lab!): we’ve kicked off our seed-starting trials ahead of schedule so you don’t have to gamble with your garden. We’re digging into what makes seedlings truly thrive, all so you can stroll into next season like a certified garden genius.

Here’s what we’re measuring while the seeds do their thing:
 🌱 Germination speed
🏆 Germination success
💪 Early root development
💧 Moisture retention

Think of it as gardening homework… that we’re doing for you. Healthy soil = healthy seedlings, so we’re putting my Raw & Regenerative potting mix and Jocelyn’s Soil Booster Worm Manure to the test before you even sow a single seed, no guessing required.

Stay tuned as the results sprout! 🌿 In the meantime, what seeds are you most excited to try next season?

Many houseplants started life as epiphytes, think orchids, bromeliads, staghorn ferns. These “high-rise” plants skip soil, perching on branches to soak up sunlight (without being parasitic!). 🌿

They love airy roots, soft light, and something to cling to. Use a bark mix or mount, mist lightly, and keep roots firm but hydrated. Adding Activated & Inoculated Biochar boosts airflow, moisture balance, and helpful microbes, just like the forest. 🌱

Epiphytes remind us plants aren’t just soil, they’re tiny ecosystems. Bring a bit of the canopy home and watch your mini jungle thrive! 🌿✨

Which epiphyte is your favorite? Drop it below! 👇

“A peat-free potting mix that makes seedlings happy? That makes me happy too!” 😄

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, N.D. Vette! I’m truly grateful that my Raw & Regenerative Peat-Free Living Potting Soil helped your seedlings get the strong start they deserve. And seeing similar wins from others, whether it’s finding a truly peat-free option in Atlantic Canada or coming back for your second (or third!) bag, means the world to me. 🌱💚

Choosing peat-free isn’t just a gardening decision; it’s a quiet high-five to wetlands everywhere. These muddy legends store carbon, protect wildlife, and keep ecosystems steady… so every bag of peat-free mix is a small change with a seriously kind ripple. 💧🦆

Here’s to tiny sprouts, thriving houseplants, repeat growers, and gardeners who choose to nurture the planet right alongside their plants.
Honestly? You’re making the world a little better with every seed you tuck in. And that’s pretty ground-breaking.

What’s sprouting on your windowsill right now? Share your tiniest triumphs below! 🌱

Feed your soil, fuel your plants! 🌿✨ Give your green friends a gourmet upgrade with my Activated & Inoculated Biochar, the ultimate soil superfood.

This high-carbon amendment is full of microscopic pores that trap water, nutrients, and beneficial microbes, then release them slowly when your plants need them most.

When mixed and cured with Jocelyn’s Soil Booster Worm Manure, it becomes:
🌟 Activated (nutrient-rich)
🦠 Inoculated (microbe-loaded)

Why your plants will love it:
🌱 Improved Soil Fertility: Slow-release nutrients for stronger, happier plants.

💧 Better Water Retention: Tiny pores hold moisture longer, so you water less.

💪 Enhanced Soil Structure: Loosens compacted soil, boosts aeration, and supports a lively soil ecosystem.

Healthy soil, happy roots, thriving plants, it’s as simple as that. 🌱 What’s your favorite way to keep your soil healthy?

What a bloomin’ great day!🌸

My Soil Boosting workshop at .park in partnership with the was a total seed-cess!🌱

It was amazing to see people of all ages come together to dig in, connect, and share their love for gardening, nature, and community. 🤲🌎

From rolling wildflower seed balls, brewing DIY Soil Aid Tea bags, and learning how to nurture their food forest with my Worm Manure🪱, the energy, smiles, and turnout were fun-tastic! 🤩

Shoutout to my official & and unofficial (Andrea, Mary Elizabeth, and my Dad George) crew! You guys made everything grow so smoothly!

Big thank-you to the City of Vaughan (via ) for allowing us to sponsor this initiative to grow a greener, healthier, and happier city. ❤️

👀If you’re in the area, swing by Marita Payne Park to spot the freshly planted fruit trees taking root.

Tell me, what’s your favourite way to get your hands dirty and connect with nature and your community?

Beneath the surface, microbes, fungi, and bacteria transform organic matter into the nutrients your plant loves. But cramped roots or tired soil slow them down, not the vibe we want! 👎

Is your plant ready for a ✨glow-up✨? Give your plant a Soil Spa Day using my Raw & Regenerative Peat-Free Living Potting Soil:

Start by rehydrating your Raw & Regenerative Potting Soil to wake up the microbes. Pick a slightly bigger pot with drainage. Gently free your plant and trim any tangled roots. Add fresh soil, tuck your plant in, sprinkle Jocelyn’s Soil Booster Worm Manure for a microbe-packed boost, and finish with a good soak.

Your roots (and their tiny roommates) will thank you! When did your plants last get a spa day? 🌱🧖‍♀️ Tell me below in the comments!

What a week celebrating Urban Ag thanks to Toronto Urban Growers ()! The highlight was definitely visiting the beautiful green roof farm at in Regent Park. Seriously, this place is special!

🤷‍♀️Why? Because it’s not any garden green roof; this is a working community garden, which is incredibly rare (and cool!) for Toronto. It’s run by the brilliant team at Green Thumbs Growing Kids (), who sell the food grown back to the community and teach kids how to grow regeneratively. 🌱

Naturally, I showed up with the goods! We provided 50kg of Probiotics for Plants Worm Manure to inoculate their soil with microbes. Consider this the rooftop’s organic power-up! I’m stoked to play a small part in how they steward their soil.

A massive, heartfelt thank you to the one and only Sunday Harrison (), a true powerhouse leader in Toronto’s urban ag scene. And shout-out to Joe Durand (), the coolest compost/soil geek, and true Wastenot believer. Thanks for being such a champion for good dirt, Joe and Sunday! ❤️

Rooftop garden soil needs special care and my Worm Manure is low-volume, high value solution ideal for these difficult environments. Drop a line if you work with a rooftop garden that could use a 💥Probiotics power-boost!💥

Haven’t started a compost pile yet? Your banana peels are getting impatient. 🍌

At Wastenot Farms, we don’t let good rot go to waste. We give food scraps a second life with a lineup of composting methods that feed the soil, and the planet.

Here’s our rot-and-roll crew🤘:

🪱Vermicomposting: Red wiggler worms turn scraps into castings (aka worm p**p) full of nutrients and microbial magic.

🔥Thermophilic Composting: High heat (130–160°F) breaks down waste fast and zaps w**d seeds, perfect for big batches.

😎Mesophilic Composting: The chill, low-temp method for slow, small-batch breakdown with minimal effort.

🕰️Johnson-Su Bioreactor: The “set it and forget it” method, waste sits for 9–12 months and transforms into fungi-rich compost.

🥒Bokashi Composting: This ancient, anaerobic technique uses Effective Microorganisms (EM) in a sealed pail to ferment food waste, creating a pickled end-product full of healthy soil potential.

Each method helps fuel the Soil Food Web, that underground network of microbes, fungi, and insects that keeps your garden thriving and chemical-free.

Got any composting hacks or green-thumb secrets to recycle? Drop them in the comments!

🍂 Leave Your Leaves Alone! 🍂

As fall settles in and leaves start to blanket the ground, consider letting them stay right where they are.

Leaf litter isn’t just a seasonal nuisance, it’s nature’s mulch. It protects the soil, locks in moisture, and slowly breaks down to feed essential microbes and fungi underground. These tiny organisms play a huge role in building healthy, living soil that supports everything growing above it.

Want to take it a step further? Pair your fallen leaves with a low-growing cover crop. Together, they create a living mulch that supports soil life all year long. My Living Mulch Cover Crop Kit is designed for exactly that, helping you build a thriving, low-maintenance ecosystem in your garden.

Let the ground breathe, feed the soil, and let Mother Nature do her thing! 🌬️

💬 What do you do with your fall leaves?
Drop a comment below and let me know, do you compost them, let them be, or maybe even jump in them?
