NVA Canada

NVA Canada For the love of animals and the people who love them. This vision for local empowerment and servant leadership continues at NVA Canada today.

NVA Canada is a rapidly growing community of Canadian veterinary hospitals and passionate professionals dedicated to serving the local needs of pets and their owners. Globally, the NVA community tops 1500 veterinary hospitals and pet resorts in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. Over 35,000 veterinary professionals work to improve the well-being of patients by providi

ng progressive and compassionate veterinary care. Since the first hospital joined NVA in 1997, founding veterinarian Dr. Stanley Creighton has emphasized support for the local medical standards established by individual doctors and practices. He has always believed that when veterinarians craft strategies specific to their own hospitals and communities, high quality patient care and client services follow. We are partners in possibility, making new professional tools and resources available to hospitals, supporting with recruiting, administration and management, and caring for caregivers so the Canadian community can continue to grow and thrive.

21/06/2024

Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, NVA Canada pays tribute to the diverse cultures, traditions, and invaluable contributions and sacrifices of Indigenous peoples across Canada.
This day serves as a powerful reminder to appreciate and respect the indigenous heritage that has shaped our societies.
As we commemorate this significant day, let us acknowledge the injustices and historical challenges that Indigenous communities have faced and continue to confront. It is crucial to listen to their voices, stories, and experiences, amplifying their calls for justice, equality, and self-determination.
Together, we can work towards a better future.

Please join us in extending a very warm welcome to the newest member of the Park Veterinary Centre team, Dr. Angela Oakley🌟💙💚

Dr. Oakley chairs the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association disability & DEI work group, has a strong presence speaking at conferences and takes pride in her advisory work at clinics where she reviews opportunity for accessibility. When chatting with Dr. Oakley, she shared how excited she is to be joining such an amazing team, particularly at a clinic that is accessible to persons with disabilities.

Dr. Oakley joins the NVA Canada community with a strong surgical, dental and ultrasound skill set. She is also a University of Saskatchewan graduate!

In her free time she is very involved in adaptive sport including skiing on the Canadian Paralympic Nordic/Biathlon team and hand cycling. Dr. Oakley enjoys spending time with her retired show jumping horse, Eurus, her two cats that originated as fosters and became her own, Stitch and Mini, and fondly reflects on her Bernese Mountain Dog who recently crossed rainbow bridge.

At NVA Canada, diversity, equity and inclusion is core to our beliefs. We recognize work needs to be done across the veterinary industry to make the profession accessible to all. We continue to learn, and are honoured to have Dr. Oakley as a valued member of our community.

🚨Attention Travelling Pet Parents🚨

Effective August 1, 2024, pet parents must adhere to new CDC requirements for importing dogs into the U.S. through all borders, including land and air. Key requirements include:

1️⃣Dogs must appear healthy upon arrival.
2️⃣Dogs must be at least six months old.
3️⃣Dogs must have an ISO-compatible microchip for identification.
4️⃣Dogs must have a Certification of Foreign or U.S.-issued Rabies Vaccination**
5️⃣Dogs must be accompanied by a CDC Dog Import Form receipt
☝🏼Additional requirements vary based on the dog's country of origin and vaccination status

These rules apply to all dogs, including puppies, service animals, and dogs that left the United States and are returning. They also apply whether you are a U.S. citizen, legal U.S. resident, or foreign national.

To learn what you need to travel with your pet, explore the CDC website and leverage their "DogBot" to learn the specific requirements you need to fulfill: https://bit.ly/2rww2bq
Once you know what your pet needs, contact your veterinarian for any required vaccinations, microchips, or examinations, etc.

Please share this post to keep other pet parents informed🔁

**When traveling from Canada to the USA, dogs without rabies vaccinations may still enter, as Canada is deemed a 'low risk' country (provided the dog has not traveled to certain countries within the past six months). Required documentation and a microchip are necessary, but a rabies vaccine is not mandatory. However, without the rabies vaccination, the paperwork is valid for only a single entry into the USA for up to 30 days. In contrast, vaccinated dogs can enjoy significantly longer validity and multiple entries.

May 26 is Heat Awareness Day. With warmer weather around the corner, we want to offer tips that will lead you and your pets through summer, safely.

💦Hydration is Key: Always ensure your pet has access to fresh, clean water. Consider placing multiple water bowls in different areas of your home and yard.

⏲️Limit Outdoor Activities: During peak heat hours, limit outdoor activities. Opt for early morning or late evening outings when it's cooler.

⛱️Provide Shade and Cooling Areas: Create shaded areas in your yard where your pet can rest comfortably. Use cooling mats, fans, or even a shallow kiddie pool filled with water for them to cool off.

🚗Never Leave Pets in Parked Cars: Even with the windows cracked, cars can quickly become dangerously hot for pets. Never leave your pet unattended in a parked car.

🥵Watch for Signs of Overheating: Be aware of signs of overheating in pets, such as excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or difficulty breathing. If you suspect your pet is overheated, move them to a cooler area immediately and contact your veterinarian.

🔁Share this post to keep all the animals in your community safe this summer!

Heartworm is a disease that can occur in dogs, cats and other animals caused by a parasite which can be transferred through the blood when mosquitoes bite. Heartworm disease affects the heart and lungs. Your pet may show no symptoms until it progresses to an advanced stage which is much more difficult to treat.

As we know, mosquitos are no joke here in Canada. Talk with your beloved pets’ veterinary team today to ensure they’re protected. Remember, prevention is key!

Our amazing community continues to grow! Welcome Dr. Kathryn who joined the fabulous team at Martensville Veterinary Hospital in March🌟

Dr. Kathryn's childhood was a whirlwind of animals, from caring for Guinea pigs to assisting with guide dogs and teaching children with disabilities to ride horses. This passion guided her to become a veterinary technician, where she acquired the skills that eventually led to an opportunity in the master's degree program at the University of Saskatchewan in Toxicology. Graduating as a veterinarian from Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015 felt like destiny fulfilled✨ Beyond work, she enjoys dog walks, painting, climbing, and quality time with loved ones.

We are thrilled to have you, Dr. Kathryn!

🌟 Celebrating Excellence at Village Veterinary Clinic 🌟

Let's take a moment to applaud the exceptional team at Village Veterinary Clinic, whose commitment to community and philanthropy shines bright.

Recently, they organized a delightful event featuring pet caricatures, nail trimming services, captivating raffles, and a delightful bake sale. These initiatives were all part of their noble endeavor to raise funds for Worldwide Veterinary Service - WVS.

Through their dedication and hard work, this remarkable team raised over $2500! It's truly inspiring to witness healthcare professionals uniting for such noble causes.

Congratulations to Village Veterinary Clinic for their heartfelt and impactful contributions!

The cheque is in and we have the total for our Fundraiser Extravaganza. Thanks to all your generous donations we raised $2,823.25 for Worldwide Veterinary Services. We are so grateful to all who supported this event by either buying raffle tickets, baked goods or pet post cards, booking in their pet for a nail trim, having a caricature done or giving a monetary donation.
Dr. Mary Lynn will be volunteering at the Blanyre SPCA and the Majete Wildlife reserve in Malawi, Africa for the month of July. This huge donation will go a long way for pets and wildlife in need in one of the poorest countries in the world. We sure hope she made room in her luggage for this BIG cheque!!!
Thank you!!!!!
