Meet Mr. Bojangles,

We first met this handsome boy back in the fall of 2023.

His current owner had just purchased him with the feet pictured in the top photos. He had very overgrown hooves. His front feet were upright with some serious growth rings, and jammed lateral cartilages. His hind feet were underrun, with long toes and most likely negative plantar angles.

Check out his progress photos after 5 months of being trimmed regularly on a 4 week cycle.

Meet Shrek,

Those ears 😍 — Shrek is currently rehabbing from laminitis. He was spending most of his time laying down (to get off of his sore feet). We dug around and found a pair of loaner cloud boots to help get him more comfortable.

His caregiver reports that he’s feeling better already 🫶🏻

Meet Apollo,

Look at his sweet face! 😍
Apollo is a big boy standing 18.3 hands tall!

His owner recently adopted him from a rescue — and she was advised not to have him trimmed without using sedation and stocks. Stocks are sometimes used with heavy breed horses to restrain them while their feet are being trimmed.

They are restrained within a wooden or metal frame while each leg is raised and tied up for the duration of the trim.

On our first visit with Apollo - we worked on learning how to lift his feet (with the wonderful help from Elodie) Some cookies and scratches went a long way! We were able to get him trimmed — without using sedation!

When we returned for a second time he remembered what he had to do and the trim went perfectly.

Today we fit this handsome, senior gelding with navicular into his very own pair of Renegade glue ons!

First we applied Artimud to his collateral grooves and central sulcus - to protect against thrush! We then added some Glu-U shufill to provide cushioning to his soles — as well as some Scootboot wedge pads to help support his heels. We used Easycare super glue with accelerator to adhere them to this hoof walls and finished it off with some Sleipnir casting material for some extra security.

🌷Spring has arrived!

And so has mud season… 😬

Don’t forget to pick those hooves out daily — and apply artimud to help combat thrush!

Thrush is a common infection in hooves. It's mainly recognized as black, sticky, tarry and sometimes slimy 'gunk' in the frog clefts, and will more often than not have a rank odour as well.

The type of thrush that concerns us the most often goes unnoticed; it's the thrush that infects the very centre of the frog - the central sulcus or central cleft. While there should be a natural slight indent, you should be able to see the bottom of the cleft; if not, your horse has a deep infection. An infection in this area is more troublesome than thrush located along the sides of the frog as the central sulcus has more nerve endings. This type of thrush can make your horse avoid landing on the back of their hoof (where all the shock should be absorbed) and land toe-first instead. Toe-first landings over time can lead to toe cracks, thin soles, contracted heels and even navicular syndrome.

To find out if your horse has this type of thrush: gently pick out the centre of their frog, if your hoof pick starts to disappear more than 5mm into the cleft, you've found thrush!

Luckily, treatment is super simple! Pick those hooves as often as you can and apply Artimud to any crevices. Artimud is a perfect blend of green French clay, bio-active honey, zinc oxide and eucalyptus oil; it kills bacteria and fungi and heals at the same time. We have seen and used many products over the years and have found Artimud to be the very best as it packs right into the area. It's gentle enough not to burn the new tissues growing in and helps prevent mud and manure from getting into the cleft and re-infecting the area. Meet Sailor ⚓️

This senior Oldenburg gelding, aged 24 — has recently retired from a high level dressage career

Since his retirement - he has been receiving corrective trims (every 4 weeks) which has helped improve his hoof and coffin bone angles to give this handsome guy the support he needs.

‼️Update on Dallas‼️

We first met Dallas in April of 2022 — He was recumbent and was given only a 10% survival rate by his attending veterinarian.

Previous founder episodes had left him unsound — with long toes and very thin soles. We were able to give him a set up trim at that time, and fit him into a pair of cloud boots. He trotted off sound after that initial trim!

Thanks to a proper (metabolic safe) diet, and light exercise he was able to lose over 300 lbs!

His owner acquired a new farrier, and kept in contact with us for guidance. With the efforts of all involved, Dallas now has a much improved laminae connection and sole thickness. The vet was pleasantly shocked!

Today we received this heart warming message from his Mom (shown above).
