Spring is officially here in the northern hemisphere as the vernal equinox had just occurred in the past 24 hours. 🌎 The equinox is the point where the day and night hours are equal on our planet 🌍 . From this point until June 21st (summer)☀️, the days are going to get longer which means more sunlight for our beautiful plants 🌻. Based on the forecast, it looks as though our last frost date could be an early one this year. It is time for us to start planning our gardens. Happy new year to you all, we hope that everyone is doing well and is safe. We are in preparation for yet another beautiful year for gardening 🧑🌾!
We are changing things up this year and are working on a better smoother experience. From ordering, to paying, packaging, and increasing the variety of plants we offer.
We have always grown our products organically. Although seeds may not be organic, the process of growing is, creating healthy, strong, living plants. This year we are trying our best to grow more organic seeds and that will be highlighted in our catalogs.
What we have learnt from last year is that we should include:
More peppers 🌶 (colors, sweet, spicy, etc)
More colorful tomatoes 🍅 (yellow, purple)
More strawberries 🍓
Herb baskets 🌿
We are in the process or placing an order for a variety of seeds, including the list above with the addition of gooseberry and Brussels sprouts.

Happy 2020 Summer Solstice to all the urban gardeners! June 20th was the longest day of the year & the day the sun reaches the highest and northernmost points in the sky. ☀️☀️☀️ The plants are surely enjoying the extra light. 🌱🌱🌱
To all my new urban gardeners, June 24th which is “midsummer day” is approaching. Historically, this day marks the midpoint of the growing season, halfway between planting 🌱 and harvesting 🌶. It is a day for growers to celebrate their anticipated harvest for the season. Which is what being an urban gardener is truly all about! The reward you feel for growing your own food is definitely worth celebrating! I want to encourage and keep inspiring new and existing urban gardeners 🏡 to keep on planting and that it is not too late to start or continue putting those beautiful crops in the earth 🌱 . Let’s all celebrate crop growth, and self sustainability on midsummer day on June 24th ☀️☀️☀️.

Creating sustainability for yourself as well as your family and community is one of the most powerful things you can do. At Urban Greenhouse, we wish to enable you to start using nature as it was intended. Growing locally and becoming less reliant on imported goods and more self-sufficient.
Most people don’t even know how or where their veggies were grown. Home grown food is not only more delicious but packed with more nutrients than imported produce. Unfortunately, nutritional content of fruits and vegetables begin to decline the moment they are harvested. Considering the weeks and/or months it takes for produce to get from the field to our plate, no wonder both taste and nutritional content are sacrificed. The global food system is also showing many signs of strain and instability at a time when demand continues to rise. The answer to that is Urban Farming. The point is to replace mass production by production by the masses.
