In Today’s Rescue News:
This past weekend, we were contacted about what appeared to be a pregnant cat in need of help. One of our incredible volunteers set out to trap her. After three days of persistence, the cat was finally trapped, but it turned out she wasn’t pregnant after all. Our best guess was that she either had never been pregnant or had recently given birth, as she did have some milk.
We named her Tiffany and brought her to our vet, who kindly agreed to spay her on a Sunday. Tiffany was spayed and ear-tipped that morning. Despite her life on the streets, Tiffany is incredibly sweet and clearly deserves more than a life outdoors. But if she had recently given birth, we knew we had to find her kittens – quickly!
By this point, the kittens had potentially been without their mom for around 18 hours. Acting fast, our volunteer purchased a tracker and AirTag, securing them to Tiffany with a breakaway collar in hopes she would lead us to her babies. If they were older, they may have started to wander - but if they were newborns, they’d likely still be where she left them.
Our goal was to find the kittens and bring the whole family inside, where they could live safely and start a better life. Life on the streets is no life for any cat, especially vulnerable kittens.
After watching Tiffany closely for a few hours, the volunteer noticed her settling in one spot. That’s when she discovered the kittens in a backyard, being cared for by an elderly couple.
Tiffany and her kittens, all friendly and about six weeks old, were reunited. The entire little family is now safe in foster care, where they’ll stay until they’re ready to find their forever homes.
Oh, and as an added bonus, dad was also trapped and will be neutered and spend time in foster until he’s ready for his forever home at last!
Thank you to our volunteer (our volunteers really are the best!) for her dedication and perseverance and to Tomken Veterinary Hospital for coming in on Sunday to help!
