Bee the duck was in to see our exotic vet yesterday and made quite the impression with our team. He is one of many domestic ducks who lives at the sanctuary that’s run by his dad.

Who's a pretty bird? Lok Lok is!

African Greys like Lok Lok, as well as other members of the parrot family, benefit greatly from having UV lights in their enclosures as they aid the absorption of nutrients like calcium.

Fun fact: parrots can see a in broader spectrum of colour than humans can 🦜

Travelling to the USA? Here's what you need to know 👇

As of Aug 1st, 2024 the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) is implementing new regulations for dogs entering the United States. Please see the links provided for all the information we currently have. The CDC and CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) are still finalizing what will be required. As we find out more information, we will update our social media account.

Dogs must meet the following requirements:

- at least 6 months of age
- have an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) compliant microchip
- appear healthy upon arrival
- have a CDC Dog Import Form receipt (this form will only be made available by the CDC after July 15, 2024, and must be submitted through the CDC website)
- have additional documentation, which varies depending on where the dog has been in the past 6 months before entering the U.S., and the dog's rabies vaccination status

With great heat waves come even greater responsibility! 🌞

As the temperature rises into that summer feeling we all know and love, it's important to keep the health and safety of your pets in mind. Simple adjustments to your daily outdoor routine can make the difference between fun in the sun and an unplanned trip to the ER.

Meet Truffles!

Truffles is a shy girl who has come a long way since her first day with HSKL. She came in as a stray with an injured paw, which our veterinarian quickly fixed for her. She is very timid but has started coming around and appreciates head rubs through her kennel. She needs a quiet home, with someone who can give her the space she needs until she gets comfortable.

Truffles has been spayed and is up to date on vaccinations

If you would like to meet Truffles, or any of the other pets we have posted this week please visit the HSKL website:
