John’s vision is communities where animals thrive with respect, love and wellbeing. Thank you for considering adoption! Visitation with adoptable pets will remain by appointment only for approved adopters. (Reducing our visitors to approved adopters has proven to reduce the stress of our residents allowing potential adopters a better opportunity to get to know their match and has significantly red

uced the spread of disease). If you see an animal you are interested in please send an email to [email protected] and we will forward you an application. If your application is approved we will contact you via email or telephone to book an appointment. The mission of the SPCA St. John’s is to provide leadership, education and a consistent voice on matters that promote and improve the welfare of animals. We care for and shelter companion animals in need, prevent cruelty and encourage responsible pet ownership.

What is a microchip??

A microchip is also called an “identifying integrated circuit” – it is a small chip (about the size of a grain of rice) that will bring up a specific number when scanned by the proper type of scanner. Microchips use radio frequency identification technology to communicate with microchip scanners. The ‘chip’ of the microchip is surrounded by glass so your animal is never in contact with the actual ‘chip’.

Vet clinics, animal shelters and municipal animal control facilities usually have scanners capable of reading microchips. When the chip is scanned, the number is matched in a database to determine the owner’s contact information so the pet can be returned.

Meet Duke

Breed: Husky mix
Age: 2 years
Weight: 39kg (about 90 pounds)

This handsome man is looking for his furever home. Duke is able to go home as a Foster to Adopt as he is awaiting his neuter with our veterinarian here in St. John's. Please note that the approved adopter must be able to bring him to this appointment when it is booked by our staff.

Duke is a huge love bug and likes to greet you with all the kisses. He loves some good butt rubs and belly rubs. Duke can be a little mouthy when you are touching his paws and tail, but shows no aggression.

Duke is a little afraid of the squeaky toys, he has no idea where the sound is coming from. He may need some time to learn that toys are fun. He would benefit from some basic training.

When meeting the cats, he was scared of them and ran away when they hissed at him through the kennel. Due to this we are recommending he can go to a home with dog-savvy cats as long as the proper slow introductions are made. He is able to go home with another dog pending a meet.

Hey there, future best friend! I'm Gabby, and boy, do I have a lot to share!

Some really nice people have SPONSORED my adoption.

First things first, I’m a super sweet girl with a heart full of love and a whole lot of energy. I thrive on playtime and adventures, and I can’t wait to find someone who wants to run around with me every day! Whether it’s a game of fetch or just zooming around the yard, I’m ready to have a blast!

Now, I’ve got to be honest… sometimes my excitement gets the best of me. I can be a little mouthy when I'm having fun. It’s just my way of expressing my joy! I promise I don’t mean any harm—it's just some of that adorable puppy energy that I never quite outgrew. I’m looking for a patient and loving human who can help me refine my manners and maybe teach me some fun tricks along the way. I do know how to sit like a champ, though! Check out my perfect “SIT”—I’ve got that one down! I absolutely adore my daily walks! They're the highlight of my day. I love meeting new people and soaking in all the smells and sights.

I promise I’m great on a leash and I’m always up for an adventure. Another important thing to know about me is that I’d thrive best in a home without cats or other dogs. I get a little too excited around them, and I want to make sure everyone feels safe and happy. If you’re looking for a fun, lovable companion to keep you active and entertained, I’m your girl! I just need someone who sees the potential in me and is ready to help me learn and grow. Let’s make some amazing memories together! Hope to meet you soon!

With wagging tails and puppy kisses, Gabby

Do you unexpectedly find yourself with many new sets of tiny paws in the house and don’t know what to do? Have you heard about our Prevent Unwanted Pets (PUP) Program?

The goal of the SPCA St. John’s PUP Program is to remove obstacles for families by helping get their pet spayed to permanently stop unwanted litters.

We will accept the kittens or puppies into our PUP Program, find them loving homes and provide a spay surgery for the mother – all for no charge.

The way the program works is when the litter is 10 weeks old we will have you come in with the babies to be kept in our care and to prepare them to find their forever homes. After being separated from the babies for 2 weeks we will contact you with a date and time for the spay surgery for the mother.

If you have, or are expecting a litter of puppies or kittens, or have questions about this program, please contact us at [email protected] or at 726-0301 ext:101 and leave a voicemail to sign up for the program!

Meet Loki

Breed: Husky / Shepherd Mix
Age: 1 year
Weight: 26kg (about 57 pounds)

This handsome man is looking for his furever home. Loki is able to go home as a Foster to Adopt as he is awaiting a dental surgery to have a tooth removed with our veterinarian here in St. John's. Please note that the approved adopter must be able to bring him to this appointment when it is booked by our staff.

Loki is a sweetheart and would make a great addition to any family. He loves to go for his daily walks with our volunteers and is a bundle of energy. He would do great in an active home where he can burn some of that husky/shepherd energy. When he's done playing he loves to just relax and cuddle up on the couch for some pets.

Loki loves his toys, he is not the biggest fan of you taking them but shows no aggression with this. He will allow you to take his toys but will give you a sad look when you take them.

Loki is able to go to a home with dog-savvy cats if the proper slow introduction is made. He is able to to go home with another dog pending a meet.

Sweet timid Lara is ready for a home!

She’s approx. a year old, found as a stray a few months back that no one claimed. She is still pretty shy when it comes to humans. You can see her shivering while she gives one of the staff members her belly for a rub — she wants to be loved on but is still a little scared! She would open right up in a home with other cats! Dogs make her more nervous and may put her into hiding! She is a lovely girl and will be an amazing cuddler once she’s settled in her new home!

15/01/2025

Here’s this cutie Candy Cane!
Approx. 11 years old.

This lady originally came from us, adopted out as a kitten although the previous owner was calling her “Puss”!
She is declawed.
She can come off as shy but also standoffish, she doesn’t like being held very much but does enjoy her head being rubbed! She likes licky tubes so that may be a way to win her over!
Not used to cats or dogs!

Miss KoKo is ready for a home!
Approx. 6 years old

She loves to cuddle and play with her mice toys! The previous owner said she may take a bit to warm up in her new home but once she’s out of her shell, she likes to be the little spoon! She would like a quiet home, one that has another kitty or doggie friend!

14/01/2025

Delia!

This cutie is 7 years old.

A really sweet girl. Very cuddly! Chirps in the mornings for food. Likes to get in your face for attention a real sweetie!!
Giving her belly rubs is a trap! Do not pet her belly when she shows it!
Would be good with other cats, not used to dogs.
