(71)

John’s vision is communities where animals thrive with respect, love and wellbeing. Thank you for considering adoption! Visitation with adoptable pets will remain by appointment only for approved adopters. (Reducing our visitors to approved adopters has proven to reduce the stress of our residents allowing potential adopters a better opportunity to get to know their match and has significantly red

uced the spread of disease). If you see an animal you are interested in please send an email to [email protected] and we will forward you an application. If your application is approved we will contact you via email or telephone to book an appointment. The mission of the SPCA St. John’s is to provide leadership, education and a consistent voice on matters that promote and improve the welfare of animals. We care for and shelter companion animals in need, prevent cruelty and encourage responsible pet ownership.

Meet a retired sled dog, Link!

approx. 8 years
Husky Mix (Labrador Special)
34kg =74lb

Link is a super sweet boy who has since been retired from his working days as a sled dog! He can be a bit flinchy when approached too quickly, he tends to eat his food quicker when approached but he has no aggression. He is not really used to living in a home so he may fret the first couple of days but once he realizes being inside the home is fun and comfy, he should settle quickly! Silly boy. Loves head rubs.
He really likes other dogs; a lot of the sled dogs are pack creatures and will thrive with other dogs in the home!

He can go home with dog-savvy cats.
Recommended he go home with children that are a bit older as he does tend to be a bit flinchy when approached too quickly.
Also would be great if he went home with another dog!

Meet Gabby

Breed: Husky/ Pittie mix
Age: 2 years
Weight: 34.3kg (about 75lbs)

LOOK AT HER GOOD SIT.
Gabby is a very energetic girl! She loves everyone and would do anything to have someone run around with her for days. When Gabby gets this excited she will get a bit mouthy; she does not hurt you by no means just still has some puppy behaviour that she’s never grown out of.

Gabby has no issues with anyone handling her and loves going for her walks everyday! She doesn’t know any tricks therefor would benefit from some basic training. She does know SIT though. Shes very good at that one! This will also help with the mouthiness she shows when excited.

Gabby was assessed by a trainer and we believe that she would be best suited in a home with no cats or dogs as she is reactive to both.

Please email us at [email protected] if you are interested in adopting!

Meet Rocko (please read the whole post)

Breed: Dogo Argentino mix
Age: 3 years
Weight: 37.7kg (about 82 pounds)

Rocko came to us about a month ago as an owner surrender. He was very nervous at first and did not trust us. We worked hard to gain his trust and eventually we seen he is the sweetest boy who just loves attention and affection.

Now that Rocko is comfortable with us we see how playful and high energy this sweet man can be. He is always so happy to see us in the morning and when playing with him he becomes very vocal with happy/excited screams!!! He can also becomes abit mouthy but does not apply pressure.

Rocko still takes a few minutes to get used to meeting new people but warms up quickly now with some treats. He has no signs of resource guarding with food, toys, or high value treats.
He does exhibit some dog reactivity, therefore we recommend a home with no dogs or cats. This reactivity can be worked on with a positive reinforcement trainer.

Our sweet little Sage.

4 years old.
Rottweiler / Lab / Husky Mix
25 kg =55 lbs (roughly)

Sage fame to is early September as an owner surrender. We knew quickly that she was going to be a very nervous nelly and sent her straight out into a foster home.
Sage needed some medical treatments for her skin and ears, which we tended to right away! As seen in her photos, she’s looking SO much better and she is thriving in her foster home, but alas, the foster is only a foster and Sage is looking for her furever home now!

Here’s what the foster has to say about her:
“Sage is a little shy and nervous when she first meets you but once she gets familiarized with you she is the friendliest energetic girl. Sage is a big puppy who loves to play and run. Her favourite things are daily walks, playing with tug of rope toys and you! Sage loves attention, giving kisses, and overall just always wanting to be around you.
She does well on a leash and knows a few commands like sit and paw but could benefit from some other basic training, she is a very smart dog so it shouldn’t take her long to learn!”

Sage does not need any further treatment for her skin. The vet has recommended adding Omega-3 to her diet however to help along with growing back her fur.

She cannot go home with cats. She can go home with doggy friends, pending a meet!

Let’s get this sweet lady into her new home!

Puppies Puddin & Perogi!

approx. 9 weeks old
Both Female
Husky Mix (Labrador Special)

These little angels are searching for their homes!

We recommend them going to an active home! Puppies can be a lot of work, although the foster home has been working on potty training, which they are doing good so far, they will still need some more training!
They are both silly, wiggly, loving little ladies. They love toys, playing in the backyard and zooming around with their bums tucked in fast mode!

They are approved to live with cats, dogs and children of all ages!
