Are you the sort of person who looks at empty or underused spaces around Calgary and thinks to yourself: "Why?" Do you find yourself wishing there were more ways you could get involved in making Calgary resilient and beautiful?
On May 3, join Jack, co-founder of Vacant Lots Farm Club, for a Jane's Walk as we tour around Country Hills Village Pond, ending up at our new community farm location. Along the way we'll discuss the different opportunities that empty spaces present, through a nature based lens. From tiny little patches, to acres of park, you'll learn to look at your surroundings in a new way. Once we arrive at Vacant Lots Farm Club we will be discussing therapeutic horticulture, which is a fancy term for growing food and flowers that make you feel good. We will then do a short land observation activity to demonstrate how tuning into our surroundings is a powerful tool.
Operated by the Federation of Calgary Communities, Jane’s Walk is a global festival of walking tours that celebrates the life and work of urban activist Jane Jacobs. Whether you’re interested in local history or ecology, suburban neighbourhoods or inner city, they've got something for everyone of all ages.
