My Grandfather's Cat was inspired by our founder's experience adopting her grandfather's cat, Mackenzie, who gained more than 500k followers on TikTok and Instagram for being grumpy and going on adventures. She founded the organization on May 18, 2021, her grandfather's birthday.

This week, we hit 125k on Instagram, bringing our social community to more than 215k – that's more than two Taylor Swift concerts at Wembley.

When I imagine that many people as if they were standing in a room together, I instantly start crying. It is truly surreal what this community has built and accomplished in just three years.

I just wanted to say thank you for continuing to believe in us. It might seem second nature to you to like or share our posts, but to us it means one step closer to a cat finding their second forever home, and that means everything. 🤍

💙 Midnight is a 16 year old gal who loves to be loved. She likes to spend her days looking out the window, sniffing the fresh air and being spoiled with treats. Each night, she loves to snuggle up with her human in bed, which is also her preferred napping spot during the day.

Success Story 🤍

When a senior suddenly passed away, he left behind his two best friends, Leo and Sadie. His son knew how much they meant to his dad, so he was determined to find them a loving home. That’s when he decided to contact My Grandfather’s Cat.

He began working with our volunteer, Jenna, to find a second forever home for the duo in Simcoe, Ontario. Their sweet faces and fluffy tails were irresistible to our community and applications began to roll in. After interviewing many applicants one stood out.

Laure and her husband, Brian, were looking for a bonded pair of cats to add to their family. They had made the decision to adopt through MGC and to provide a loving home for two of our adoptables. They patiently waited for the right pair to come along, and had even applied for others, but when they saw Leo and Sadie, their hearts melted.

After being interviewed by the humans son, everyone knew Leo and Sadie were meant to be with Laure and Brian. They went for a meet and greet which was intended to be an hour. Four hours later, everyone was even more certain that it was meant to be. Leo and Sadie moved in with Laure and Brian the same day.

“We are happy to report that Leo and Sadie have settled in so well that it feels like they have been with us forever. We are so grateful to My Grandfather’s Cat for helping us find the perfect pair of cats to add to our family.”

Meet Carrie and Lucifer! As their senior human recently passed away, this brother and sister duo is in need of a second forever home together.

🤍 Carrie is a female calico and Lucifer is a black and white male. They are four year old siblings who have been loved by their human all their lives and miss her terribly.

🍊 Don't let their names fool you, these two are love bugs, although Carrie likes to give Lucifer the occasional love bite for attention and Lucifer will grab your hand when he wants more pets.

🤍 They both love to lay beside their human and snuggle in bed, especially Carrie who loves to be under the covers. They enjoy each other's company, love playing with their toys and using their scratching post.

Loki and Willow are stunning 10-year-old Abyssinian cats, adopted as kittens by their human. Don’t let their grumpy faces fool you, they are both friendly and full of love to give to their new humans.

🍊 Willow (right) is an affectionate girl who enjoys cuddling and following her human around the house. While shy around new people, once she feels comfortable, Willow is a loyal and loveable companion.

🍊 Loki (left) is a sweet boy with a spunky, outgoing personality. He is vocal guy and loves to spend his days playing with toys and lounging.

💚 This sweet boy likes to be in the same room as his human and observe what you’re doing. Once you earn his trust, he will show you his sweet side by curling up beside you and being his curious, but never mischievous, self.

Success Story 🎉

When Miss Kitty’s beloved human passed away, his daughter reached out to My Grandfather’s Cat to help find her a second forever home in Edmonton, Alberta.

She began working with our volunteer, Melanie, to find a home for Miss Kitty in Edmonton, Alberta. When she began to learn more about Miss Kitty, Melanie remembered a lady named Stephanie who had previously applied for an MGC adoptable.

She reached out to Stephanie, who instantly fell in love and wanted to adopt her. Within the week, Miss Kitty — now lovingly called Clara — had moved into Stephanie’s home.

As Clara had been living alone for six months with frequent visits from her humans’ family, Stephanie knew it would take time and patience for her to adjust to her second forever home.

It took 81 days for Clara to start to show her true personality. Over those three months, Stephanie talked gently to Clara, giving her space and time to adjust — providing her food, shelter and companionship until she was ready. Finally, Clara came out from hiding and showed her true self! She cuddles with Stephanie, sleeps with her, they have frequent brush sessions and Stephanie even gets kisses.

"I think Clara and I have rescued each other! I wasn’t ready to adopt another senior cat for a long time after my beloved Louise passed away two days before her thirteenth birthday, but learning about My Grandfather’s Cat changed that. They do amazing things for cats and care deeply about both the humans and cats. I’m so happy that Clara has come into my life. She is purrfect!"

Alumni Update 🤍

When her senior human became unwell and had to move into a care home, sweet 14-year old Fiona was in need of a second forever home.

Her granddaughter initially adopted her, but when Fiona didn’t get along with the other cats in the house, she knew she had a find a home for Fiona where she could be the only cat. That’s when she decided to contact My Grandfather’s Cat.

She began working with our volunteer, Patience, to find Fiona a home in Halifax, Nova Scotia. With her sweet eye and little smile, she was irresistible to our community. Patience interviewed each potential family, but she chose Dan to give Fiona her second forever home.

”I had a moment of weakness after seeing her post. She settled in very well. She’s by my side whether she is sleeping or not. I don’t think things could have gone better.”

Now, more than a year later, Fiona is thriving in her second forever home. She even recently became a big sister to baby Scarlett, and according to her dad she is a very chill big sister.

Meet Willow and Jazz! As their senior human can no longer care for them due to health concerns, this loveable duo is in need of a second forever home.

🤍 Willow and Jazz are 15 and 17 years old, respectively. Both are neutered/spayed, indoor cats who were adopted by their previous owner when they were little. Don’t let their age (or Jazz's grumpy face) fool you, they are in great health and are simply looking for a home they can fill with love.

💗 These two simply love to be loved and give love! Both love to snuggle up with their human — ideally at the same time. Jazz loves to cuddle beside you for some petting, while Willow is sure to climb into your lap, eagerly demanding attention and hugs.

Success Story 🤍

When a senior lady moved into a care home due to dementia, her beloved cat Tiny was in need of a second forever home. Her granddaughter knew how much she loved Tiny, so she made it her mission to find her a loving home. That’s when she decided to contact My Grandfather’s Cat.

She began working with our volunteer, Jordan, to find Tiny a second forever home in Niagara, Ontario. Over the next few weeks, we received 8 applications from kind and caring families interested in adopting Tiny. After a few interviews, the granddaughter chose Angie to give her a second forever home.

A couple weeks later, Tiny made the big journey to Ottawa, Ontario, to her second forever home. She settled in and Angie plans to love her for the rest of her life.

Meet Maggie! She is a 5-6 year old Tuxedo gal in need of a home as her senior human is unable to care for her.

🤍 Maggie, also known as Mags, is a sweet girl who loves spending time with her humans. Whether she is watching you do your hair or trying to sneak into their bed for a snuggle — she will always be by your side. She is known for occasionally having a feisty side, but will immediately make up for it with her loving personality and quality snuggles.

💗 When not accompanying you throughout the house, Maggie likes to cozy up by a window, watching the passing wildlife. She shows her energy in occasional ‘zoomies’ marathons around the house. Outside of this, she is a laid-back gal who is looking for a human to accompany around the house and to spend her days with.

Success Story 🎉

When their senior human could no longer care for them, sweet Baby and Fella were in need of a second forever home. His son knew how important they were to his dad, so he decided to contact My Grandfather’s Cat.

They began working with our volunteer, Emma, to find the duo a home in Ottawa, Ontario. While Fella was outgoing, his sister was more timid and needed her big brother to feel safe, so it was important they find a second forever home together.

Meanwhile, in London, Ontario, Karima had recently lost her beloved cat and was ready to open her heart and home to another animal. As a long-time supporter of MGC, she was waiting for just the right cats — or two — to come along. As soon as she saw Baby and Fella, she knew they were meant to be with her and she sent in an application.

As soon as the son spoke to Karima, he knew she was the perfect fit. A few weeks later, Baby and Fella made the trip to London. In less than 24 hours, Fella made himself at home. As soon as Baby — now lovingly called Lily — saw her brother was comfortable, she knew it was safe to come out and be loved.

Meet sweet Darla and Kalie! As their loving human is moving into a care facility, these girls are looking for their second forever homes.

🤍 Darla and Kalie are 10-12 year old gals who are very affectionate and love to spend time with their human. Darla is an orange floof with captivating green eyes while Kalie is a mix of brown and white with the sweetest puppy dog eyes you’ve ever seen.

🧡 Both girls enjoy spending time lounging with their person and receiving lots of pets. While they’d prefer to find their second forever home together, but they are not bonded and can be adopted separately.

Meet Jason! He is a a quiet, 10-year old, independent guy who likes to spend his days sitting in his favourite chair, right next to his human’s chair. He likes to snuggle on his human’s lap on occasion and sleep in the bed every single night.

🤍 He loves to spend his day looking out the window and watching birds. When the weather is nice, Jason enjoys supervised time on the balcony. He is friendly towards the PSW who visit his human.

💜 Abby is a 5 to 7-year-old tuxedo who loves to make tunnels under the duvet in the morning, keep her human company in the same room and cuddle when she feels like it. Her preferred place to spend the day is in her cat tree where she can watch over the house or look out the window.

New Adoptable ✨

Meet Molly! As her senior humans are no longer able to care for her, this beautiful girl is in need of a second forever home.

Molly is a 7-year-old, retired farm cat who was adopted by her family as a kitten. Although a little skittish at first, once she warms up she loves to be an involved member of the family. She loves to play with her catnip toys and watch birds from her window perch.

Although she’s not a lap cat, Molly loves to sit next to her people on the couch while watching TV, getting pets and scratches. Like everyone, she likes to have her own space, but bonds very closely with her people once she is comfortable and will follow them around the house.

Molly was an only cat while living with her humans and would prefer to keep it that way. While she needs to be the only pet in the house, she would do well in a home with older, pet-savvy children. She has previous experience as an outdoor cat but has adapted very well to her indoor environment in her foster home.

Alumni Update 🤍

When his senior humans passed away, sweet Cashew was in need of a second forever home. His humans daughter couldn’t bare to put him into a shelter, so she temporarily boarded him until she could find him a home. After months of no luck, someone told her to contact My Grandfather’s Cat.

She began working with our volunteer, Patricia, to find Cashew a second forever home in Edmonton, Alberta. The same day his profile was posted, applications began to pour in. Just a couple days later, she chose Farrah to be his second forever family.

Now, he has been lovingly re-named "Gary-Cashew". It took a few weeks, but with love, patience and treats he accepted his new family.

"We love this sweet boy so much, and it took awhile, but he decided to love us too. Thank you MGC for everything you do and for bringing him to us!"

Meet Silky! As her senior human has passed away, this loving girl is in need of a second forever home.

🤍 Silky is a 9-11 year old affectionate gal who was adopted by her human as a companion after his beloved wife passed away. They became the best of friends, with Silky spending her days curled up on his lap.

💜 Silky’s favourite things in life are attention and snacks. Her best days are a blend of cuddling, being fed, and having someone to play with. When she's feeling a bit more on the independent side, she likes to go on little adventures around the house, that is until she’s ready for her next snuggle. Her big, loving personality is irresistible and she is sure to be the perfect addition to a family.

Meet Maggie, also affectionately known as Mags! Maggie is a friendly 5-6 year old Tuxedo cat looking for a second forever home as her senior human is unable to care for her.

Maggie is a sweet-and-spicy kitty who loves spending time around her people, whether it be watching them do their hair or trying to sneak into their bed for a snuggle. She can sometimes be feisty, but will immediately make up for it with her loving personality and excellent cuddles.
