My Grandfather's Cat Helping seniors and terminally ill people feed and arrange second forever homes for their pets in Canada

My Grandfather's Cat was inspired by our founder's experience adopting her grandfather's cat, Mackenzie, who gained more than 500k followers on TikTok and Instagram for being grumpy and going on adventures. She founded the organization on May 18, 2021, her grandfather's birthday.

This holiday season, you can give cats like Fiona the gift that means the most – a loving home 🎁

When her senior human became unwell and had to move into a care home, sweet 14-year old Fiona was in need of a home. Her granddaughter initially adopted her, but when Fiona didn’t get along with the other cats in the house, she knew she had to find a home for Fiona where she would be happy and thrive. That’s when she decided to contact My Grandfather’s Cat.

Your support allowed us to provide our free rehoming service and we found her second forever home for Fiona with Dan. Now, more than a year later, Fiona is thriving in her second forever home. She even recently became a big sister.

”I had a moment of weakness after seeing her post. She settled in very well. She’s by my side whether she is sleeping or not,” says Dan. “I don’t think things could have gone better.”

No cat deserves to lose their human, but every cat deserves a second forever home. Together, we can give them the gift that means the most. Give Now:

Meet Willow! As her senior human has passed away, this affectionate lady is looking for her second forever home.

🍊 Willow is a loving, 10-year-old gal who was adopted as a kitten by her human. While she is shy around new people, once she feels comfortable, Willow is a loyal and loveable companion. She is an affectionate girl who enjoys cuddling, getting attention and playing with her favourite ball. You can often find Willow purring up a storm, kneading a blanket and looking for attention.

🏡 Willow would be best suited to a quiet home with a patient family. Since she loves to have all the attention to herself, she will need to be the only pet in the home.

💚 Charlie like to take the lead with his brother Toby closely behind him. They will be your little shadows until they are ready for a nap, then they will go to the closet where they love to snooze. They are chill, low maintenance boys who are full of love to give.

Location: Toronto, Ontario
Availability: Urgent, Immediately

Success Story 🤍

When a senior lady could no longer care for her beloved cats, Benny and Melody, she contacted My Grandfather’s Cat to find them a second forever home. She began working with our volunteer, Jordan, to find them a second forever home in Ontario.

Jordan created their profile and it was posted on MGC’s website one evening. The early next morning, a couple named Tracy and Bob were looking on our website and fell in love with Benny and Melody. They emailed Jordan that morning.

Jordan just happened to see their email and had time to interview them that morning, so they set up a time to chat an hour later. Jordan determined they were lovely and a perfect fit, and passed their information along to the senior lady shortly after the call. The senior lady reached out to them the very same day, and by the end of that day Tracy and Bob were on their way home with Benny and Melody.

After their whirlwind adoption, Benny and Melody settled in and are thriving in their second forever home and are deeply loved by their new humans.

“Benny is a love bug and spends as much time as he can curled up on my husbands lap. Melody is a shy girl, but now two months in her new home, she is finally showing us her affection. These two babies have made our home so much happier. We thank you for your organization.”

We are thrilled to announce that we surpassed our goal and raised more than $19,000 on GivingTuesday 🤍

When I woke up and saw the total this morning I couldn't stop crying. This small charity started because one grumpy cat needed a home, and has grown to be a nation-wide organization that has helped hundreds of people and animals – and it's all because of you.

I am in awe of your kindness and generosity. It still amazes me every day that so many of you believe so deeply in the work we are doing, and choose to support us. You are the reason this charity exists and I am just so grateful.

I wholeheartedly believe my grandparents and Mackenzie are jumping up and down in heaven, and celebrating along with us. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in me and making My Grandfather's Cat a reality.

All my love,
Angela

Your support today will can help cats like Leo and Sadie find second forever homes 🐾

When their senior human passed away, this sweet bonded pair was in need of a home. Your support made it possible for us to help their family and find them a second forever home with Laurie and Brian, where they are loved and are thriving.

“We are happy to report that Leo and Sadie have settled in so well that it feels like they have been with us forever. We are so grateful to My Grandfather’s Cat for helping us find the perfect cats to add to our family.”

Our rehoming service is vital to help seniors, terminally ill people and their families to find homes for their beloved pets. Through your generosity, we can provide this service for free without charging adoption fees.

We've almost reached our GivingTuesday goal of raising $10,000, which will allow us to find 40 more second forever homes. Together, we can be there for seniors and terminally ill people to give their cats the gift that means the most — a second forever home.

Today, your support will help cats like Dexter find second forever homes 🐾

When his beloved human passed away, Dexter was in need of a second forever home. As Dexter was a diabetic cat, his adoption wasn’t easy, but through your generosity we were able to find him a loving second forever home – and even cover the cost of his urgent veterinary expenses.

“I can’t believe MGC did this. We were at a loss and now we know Dexter is going to be okay," says Dexter's human's daughter.

Today, on GivingTuesday, we’ve set a goal to raise $10,000, which will allow us to find 40 more second forever homes. Together, we can be there for seniors and terminally ill people to give their cats the gift that means the most — a second forever home.

Your support will help cats like Sally. When her senior human was diagnosed with dementia and was no longer able to care for her, Sally found a loving second forever home through MGC.

“I must express my deepest gratitude to this extraordinary nonprofit that assisted me in finding a loving home for my aging parents' cat. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

New Adoptable ✨

Meet Snowy! As her senior human is no longer able to care for her, this sweet girl is in need of a second forever home.

❄ Snowy is 4-year-old, white long-haired Persian girl. While she can be a little shy at first, once she gets to know you, she is sweet girl who loves to cuddle and stay close to her human. She is the perfect love bug to snuggle with on cold winter nights.

🤍 Snowy has a long, beautiful coat of fur that grows quickly, so she requires regular grooming. Her human chooses the iconic lion cut to manage her coat and highlight her very fluffy tail and showcase her fluffy socks.

Location: Hamilton, Ontario.
Availability: Immediately

🏡 Snowy had one previous owner and lived with two other cats who unfortunately bullied her, so she would do best in a home without other pets or children.

URGENT: As their adoption has fallen through, and their terminally ill human has a date set for MAID in a few weeks, these sweet, young boys are in urgent need of a second forever home.

Odo and Q-Tip were both proudly foster fails by their human who fostered them both as kittens. They both love to be loved and given attention. They are also lovingly named after Star Trek.

🖤 Odo is a four year old big ball of love who likes to spend his days with an even mix of independence, love and snacks. He likes to spend time alone, but will also not take no for an answer when he is feeling snuggly and wants to curl up on his humans’ lap. Odo takes his title of big ball of love seriously and is around 25 lbs. He would benefit from a diet – although his human has tried and he is not a fan of reducing his snacks.

🤍 Q-Tip is a three year old velcro cat who, unlike his brother, never wants to be independent. He loves to be with his human at all times. He follows his human around, sleeps on her face at night, can never get enough attention and is simply always available for love. Unlike his brother, he prioritizes love over snacks and is a healthy weight.

Location: Hamilton, Ontario
Availability: December 2024

🏡 Odo and Q-Tip are looking for a second forever home together with humans who can give them all the love and snacks they deserve. They are ideally looking for a home without other animals or young children.

New Adoptable ✨

Meet Bandit! As his senior humans are no longer able to care for him due to illness, this friendly boy is in need of a second forever home.

🤍 Bandit is a 12 year-old Manx cat. If you have never seen a Manx cat before, they have the shortest little tails! This outgoing boy loves to make his presence known — he’ll happily approach anyone, eager to greet new friends and ask everyone for pets and cuddles.

💕 When he needs more love and pets, he becomes a vocal boy and will be sure to get your attention. No matter where you are, Bandit will be close by. He does well in a busy environment and will simply snuggle in his bed when needed. He enjoys playing with cats toys and laying on the back deck, where he can soak up the sun and watch the birds pass by.

Location: Waterloo, Ontario
Availability: Immediately

🏡 As he loves people and attention, Brandit would do well with another cat. He has also been around small children and didn’t shy away from getting attention from them. Bandit loves companionship, so would like someone who is home often.
