We have some fabulous UNBC students helping us find more food donations for the pigs. With more support, we can help more pigs. We have the room, but feeding can be very costly. Spaying is also a large expense.

So many piggies needing new homes in BC. I wish greeders would stop!

In August 2017 I purchased my first pig from a breeder. (Shame on me!) I drove out on a whim and bought myself a birthday gift that would forever change my life.

Raising a pig inside the house is similar to raising a 2 year old toddler in their terrible two’s stage. Only a pig was much more work. More work than raising 2 year old twin boys 😂

I was fooled with the promise of “she will only be 60lbs,” although at that time I didn’t care what I was promised. I held Kohkos for a few minutes and knew I was taking her home. She doesn’t know it, but Kohkos saved me in one the hardest times of my life. I had just become a single mom with 3 young children, so why not add another toddler to the picture?! 😜 Especially one who would rip up my grass, p*el up my floor, p*e on my carpet, eat my walls and rip everyone’s bedding. (True story!) I made a lot of mistakes along the way, but I sure did learn a lot and my love for her is something fierce.

My whole goal of starting the Tickled Pig was to help pigs in need. After seeing the lack of care pigs are given and how they are often only seen as bacon, I just fell into teaching others about pigs and how intelligent they really are. It started small with me taking Kohkos to visit my daughter’s school to teach a few classes about pigs.

My dream over the last few years has been to move to acreage and allow visitors. I love to meet people, I love working with children and I absolutely love talking about pigs. We have had a few visitors every month since we moved in August and all I ask is that you bring some goodies to feed the pigs while you are here.

We have been given a generous offer to pay for lawyer fees to get help with paperwork to become a registered non-profit. We have also met another kind soul who has offered to help do up the paperwork to apply for grants. It is hard to say yes because I am a terrible “do it all on my own” type of person. It is also hard to say no because it’s a step in the direction I think I want to go. It scares me a little bit because I don’t think I want to know how much I spend on pigs eat month 😬 I am also not sure how much time I want to put into fundraising. Do I want to have to do paperwork instead of laying out in the grass with my pigs?

Today’s feeding. Big Red stole a whole bag of food from the first kiddo I sent out, he took it behind the shed and ate it all. So I send the second kiddo out with a bag of buns to feed the rest, and here is Red, being a pig! 😂

It’s been a hard week. Our Pug ended up with pneumonia and is finally feeling better thanks to antibiotics, and inflammatory/pain meds. We spent over a week just laying in bed making sure he has had the rest he needs On the plus side, all the pigs are doing well sleeping 22 hours a day. They mainly come out to eat during the winter and go back to the warm straw

This fella came to us almost 2 years ago. We do not know how old he is, or how many homes he cruised through before ending up here. We have noticed a slow decline in his health lately and he lacks the ability to catch his superworms. He has to be fed bugs one by one. It’s safe to say he is an old fella, who sadly, is on the decline. We went through this with Waffles (another hedgehog) at her end of life. For now, he will be pampered and loved, until it is his time to go

Just thought everyone would like to hear these piggies squealing like as if they hadn’t eaten in days. This is the noise they make every single feeding time They also make this noise when it isn’t feeding time. Big Red is a massive instigator of this behaviour. The Kunekune’s always join in. Now that you have heard them squealing for food, what will you feed them? 😆
