Come have some FUN while teaching your dog some life saving skills and behaviours!
📢Calling all new puppy owners or soon to be puppy owners!📢
Did you know that our Young Puppy Socialization Class registration is always open!! 🥳
You can register for as many or as few socialization classes as you want before your puppy is 14 weeks old on the class date (16 weeks for small breeds).
This is by far the most important class to take with your new puppy.
You CAN teach an old dog new tricks (behaviours like sit, down, come) but it is a lot harder to teach an adolescent dog or adult dog how to be confident, calm and thrive in our human world.
Classes run every Wednesday 4:30-5:30PM
at 101-780 Windsor Ave
There are 4 'Themes' for classes which will rotate each week.
Friday was a WALKING day!
With this nice mild weather, now is the time to get out and work on your dogs On and Off Leash Walking Skills!
No matter where your dog's skills are at, we have a service to help!
1️⃣ Group or Private Leash Skills Class or Rock-Solid Recall Class - Start here to learn and teach your dogs the skills to walking on Leash or to have a Rock-solid Recall.
✨ The next Group Leash Skills Class starts Wednesday May 29th, 7-8 PM✨
2️⃣ Private Walks - The next stepping stone to taking the skills you have learned and taught into the real world under the guidance of a multi-credentialed dog trainer and her calm, well mannered dog. Can also be a great first step into a group walk for those dogs with a little less confidence around multiple dogs.
* 30 & 60 minute options
* On and Off Leash options
* Puppy specific option to help build confidence and learn how to appropriately communicate/interact with other dogs.
3️⃣ Group Walks - Come out and get some fresh air with your dog, practice the skills you and your dog have been working on and socialize with some like minded dog owners under the guidance of a multi-credentialed dog trainer! Your dogs will also get to socialize with one another on the Off-Leash walks!
* On and Off Leash options
* Puppy specific option to give your puppy for puppy interactions while still learning how to communicate appropriately and disengage from play to re-engage with YOU! Meet some other puppy parents as well!
Do you supplement your dog's daily life with different forms of enrichment?
Many dogs today lead fairly boring and unenriched lives. This boredom and lack of enrichment and stimulation can be a contributing factor for those dogs that 'get into everything', 'just can't relax', or even 'are super quick to react or overreact'.
Enrichment doesn't just provide the mental stimulation our dogs need but they are generally forms of daily activity and outlets that our dogs would choose to do.
Sniffing, licking, chewing, chasing, digging etc - all those 'doggy' behaviours.
Maybe your dog is choosing to do these things on their own but chances are...not in the way that you would like.
Osa is a chewer... She wasn't called 'The Shredder' for no reason when she was a puppy. It became very evident to me that this was one of her chosen forms of decompression and it helped to make her feel calmer. I now make sure that Osa has 'appropriate' chewing enrichment activities to help fill her needs.
What forms of enrichment do you give your dog?
Have you seen the interactive toys on our retail site?
These are the interactive toys I use with Osa to help enrich her life!
Is your dog an OPTIMIST or a pessimist? 🧐
Are you looking for something to help boost your dogs confidence and help turn them into more of an optimistic dog? A dog that can encounter new or strange things with excitement and enthusiasm instead of uncertainty or fear?
This class is for you! 🔥

What do your leash walks look like?
Is your dog dragging you all over the place because they want to move further away then the 4-5ft they can get with your short leash?
Have you tried using a long line before? While they do take a little getting used to, it is the best way to let your dog be a DOG when out on their walks. It allows them space to move freely and not be glued beside you
As you can see in the video you can do both generally loose leash walking AND focused or engaged bursts of walking with you when you have your dog on a long line!
Keep in mind that Osa is 9 and has been taught a focused walking behaviour and she has been taught what the rules of the leash are and the rules have been kept very consistent... Hint, they are the same regardless of the length of the leash 😉
If you haven't tried one before, I highly recommend you give one a try!
Tizzy and Duke nailed Recalls off each other last night! 🔥 These are two adolescent puppies that have gotten to play with each other off leash in class a number of times.
Way to go Tizzy and Duke! 👏

We're going to teach our dogs to Wave!
Now that your dog can Shake a Paw (check out Day 5 for steps to teach), we're going to use that trick to teach them to Wave!
Steps to teach:
1️⃣ Start by asking your dog to shake a paw. Mark and reward them for doing so. Now each time you ask for a shake, you're going to offer your hand slightly higher and higher until it is up by your dog's head height.
2️⃣ Once they can shake a paw repeatedly up by their head the next step is to fade out your hand. You're going to do this by pulling asking for the shake a paw BUT then you're going to pull your hand away BEFORE your dog touches it will their paw.... So that paw the air only. Mark and reward!
3️⃣ You can start to fade your hand out so that you ask for their paw from further and further away and they can reliably paw at the air.
4️⃣ Now you're going to add your cue 'Wave'! Say your cue 'Wave', wait a couple seconds and then offer your hand slightly like in step 3. If you dog paws at the air (waves) mark and reward. Repeat this step until eventually when you say 'Wave' you dog tries pawing at the air BEFORE you offer your hand!

It's time for an Obstacle Course!
Steps
1️⃣ Use some small items or furniture in your home to create a little course where your dog may have to go under, over, through our around to get from one end to the other.
2️⃣ Optional - place some treats or kibble along the way to reward your dog as they make their way. I might suggest doing this if some of the obstacles may be challenging or 'scary' to your dog ( going through a blanket tunnel for ex).
3️⃣ Start your dog at one end and go to the other end. Call your dog to you! You can also have a jackpot of treats/kibbles at the end for them.
Have FUN!

On the 8th Day of Christmas - Dog Enrichment Edition✨
We're going to teach our dogs to BOW!
Not only is this a fun trick but this is also a great stretch for your dog to do!
Steps to teach:
1️⃣ Lure your dog.
I like to lure this behaviour because the hand signal looks similar to the lured hand. You are going to lure your dog with a big treat BUT you are going to reward your dog with your other hand! I find this SO helpful in fading out the lure in the next steps.
Start your dog in a standing position. Put your lure right at your dog's nose and move it down & back towards their feet. Your lure should end up near the ground between your dog's front legs. If you bring your lure straight down and not backwards your dog will most likely lay down.
As soon as your dog's elbows touch the ground mark 'Yes' and pull your lure forward somyour dog stands. As this is new, if you keep your lure on the ground for too long it is likely your dog will lay down.
Repeat multiple times and slowly build up the duration of the behaviour!
2️⃣ Fade your Lure
Once your dog is pretty reliably bowing with the lure, you are going to take the lure out of your hand and right away get another bow... Your hand will look the exact same except for the fact there's no treat in it anymore. If your dog successfully bows, mark 'Yes', show them your hand is empty and then reward with your other hand as you have been since the start.
When you can reliably get your dog bowing for an empty hand (no lure) you can call it something! Say your cue 'Bow' and then do your hand signal 2-3 seconds later. We want to give your dog a moment to hear spin before seeing the hand signal.
Have FUN!

We're going to teach our dogs to Shake a Paw!
If you didn't know, I'm a Certified Trick Dog Instructor through @domorewithyourdog and Trick training is something I love doing!
Steps to teach:
Method #1 - Hand Target
If your dog (or cat 😜) has a nose touch behaviour already, be sure to offer your shake paw hand in a different position. My Shake Paw hand is always palm up, fingers pointing towards my dog.
Offer your hand nice and low to the ground, mark and reward your dog for ANY interaction with your hand to start....even if they just look at it/smell it. Mark and reward the same behaviour ex 'looking' only a couple times then wait them out. See if they progress from looking to even moving towards etc.
Continue with the above until they try using their paw to interact with your hand. Mark and reward!
Each time you come back to practice while.your dog is still learning, going back a step in what level they were at to remind them of the game - if you finished last time using their paw, go back and take one or two nose bumps/smells and then progress forward again!
Method #2 - Target Stick
Very similar to the above step but this time you will have a Target Stick (wooden spoon or something similar). Start with the spoon fully extended from your hand and once you are getting a Paw ( from the steps above) you are slowly going to move your hand down the spoon until it is your hand they are pawing and not the spoon!

It's time for some Muffin Pan FUN
What you'll need:
1️⃣ Muffin Pan (doesn't matter which size)
2️⃣ A handful of tasty treats or kibble - ideally ones that don't crumble.
3️⃣ 6-12 items (depending on the size of your muffin Pan). If you don't have enough 'dog items' you can improvise - ex. Silicone muffin liners, balled up piece of scrap paper or cardboard, small reusable container, balled up sock or mitt ect.
Steps:
1️⃣ Fill the muffin slots with a few treats or pieces of kibble in each Muffin tin.
2️⃣ Place an item in each of the tins covering up the treats/kibbles
3️⃣ Give it to your dog and watch them enjoy their fun! *
*Place your pan on a non-slip surface to help make it easier for your dog to move the items out of the way, without sliding the pan as well, especially if they are round.
