100% volunteer-run charity, genuinely concerned with the welfare of needy animals. WE FOUND OUR FUREVER HOME! However, we still need your help.
REMEMBER WHEN WE WERE ON THE MOVE?
“Gray skies are going to clear up, put on a happy face.” Just like the lyrics of that old song, NTCR is still saying “good day, sunshine” as we look back on the incredible journey that brought us to where we are today. Nearly three years ago, we faced the challenge of losing our previous shelter location, just as the pandemic’s impact was being felt by all. With
no fundraising events and reduced donations, we were uncertain of the future. But thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the incredible support from our community, we were able to temporarily place our cats and kittens in loving foster homes—saving lives and ensuring no one was left behind. Then, the day we had been waiting for arrived: we moved into our own fur-ever home! Today, we are thrilled to say that we’ve settled into our new shelter, and it’s been an amazing journey. In the past three years, we have continued our mission, and we couldn’t have done it without the ongoing support from all of you. The costs of running a shelter are ongoing, and our veterinary bills, supplies, and the day-to-day expenses of caring for over 150 cats and kittens remain high. We are still fundraising just as hard as ever to ensure that we can continue to provide the best care for our feline friends. Your generosity is what keeps us going, and we need your continued support to ensure that we can continue our lifesaving work. Together, we’ve saved over 4,000 cats in the last 36 years, and we know that, with your help, we can save many more. Thank you for being a vital part of our journey. We are excited for the future and the many more lives we can change with your support.

😺 Got a few spare hours? Give it to the cats! Volunteers needed to help with cleaning, dishes, and laundry.
Come for the chores, stay for the purrs. 🧹💛🐾

Safe inside just in time from the snow, beautiful Noelle is safe at the shelter. Rescuers did what they could to keep her secure and warm, and now she’ll spend a few days in a crate to settle before we vet her. Coming into a shelter can be scary with all the new smells, but she’s safe and soon she’ll be ready for her forever home.
If you’d like to help support Noelle’s care, we’re so grateful for any donations. 💕🐾
Ronaldo, our gentle big daddy, is giving Maestro the sweetest snuggle spot. 😻❤️

Update on Iris - from a busy auto repair shop, surrounded by hot pavement, stacks of tires, and constant traffic, having a false pregnancy to finding her fur-ever family and home.
Hi Donna, Sending you pics of this pretty little girl settling in!
She accepts pets and hugs from all of us gladly, and is sweet and lovely. Lots of meowing and chatting from her! She’s just so cute. 😀 Marie-Eve

Our auction has closed and because of your kindness, we raised $4,598 — and honestly, the timing couldn’t have been more critical.
We’ve just welcomed 9 new intakes and are preparing for others arriving this weekend. The door never stops turning… that’s rescue life. But with the cold weather now setting in, every single dollar means warmth, safety, food, and care for cats and kittens who would otherwise be left outside to face the elements alone. 🐾❄️
You didn’t just place bids you gave comfort, protection, and a second chance. And for that, we are beyond grateful. ❤️

Winter Cat Safety Reminder 🐾 Please Check Before You Drive
On chilly days and nights, cats will often seek warmth by crawling up into car engines or hiding in wheel wells. Before starting or moving your vehicle, please take a moment to:
🚗 Knock firmly on the hood
🚗 Check around your tires and wheel wells
🚗 Give the car a few taps to scare away any hidden kitties
This simple act can save a life.
If you’re able, please also consider putting out:
🏠 Food in a dry, sheltered spot
💧 Fresh water (protected from freezing if possible)
Let’s do what we can to help instead of turning the other way. A little awareness and kindness goes a very long way for those who don’t have a warm home to run back to. Together, we can keep everyone safe two-legged and four-legged alike. ❤️🐾 Thank you for caring.
Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and families in the U.S.A.
Wishing you a day filled with love, gratitude, and cozy moments with family, friends, and your fur-babies. 🐾🍂

Our Story
North Toronto Cat Rescue (NTCR) is a registered, non-profit, 100% volunteer-run organization in its 30th year of continuous community service. It was established by Donna Cox, whose goal was to take vulnerable cats off the street and bring them into a secure environment, where they could live in complete safety until they found their permanent home.
Over the years, more than 3,500+ cats have benefited from the services of NTCR, and are now living the lives they deserve as part of a loving family. These cats found hope and a permanent home after having experienced varying degrees of hardship in the hostile street environment or in the hands of uncaring owners. Approximately 160 cats are still living at the shelter today, away from the horrors of the street and the harsh lives they previously led.
Mission - Many of the abandoned and lost cats are not spayed or neutered, thus contributing to the already over-population of strays. There are too many colonies of cats who live short and difficult lives, ending in equally miserable deaths. We would like to see all these animals come in from the cold, and ultimately find their "furever" homes.
Our Work - North Toronto Cat Rescue is a volunteer run, non-profit, registered charity, genuinely concerned with the welfare of all cats and kittens. We rescue and provide veterinary care to homeless felines, and follow through to recovery and finally adoption.
Most rescue organizations in our area employ the use of foster homes to house rescued animals, NTCR is unique in that NTCR cats live in the NTCR shelter.
Since we are a no kill facility, this means that our kitties get to stay with us until they find their forever homes. This can take a while, because more often than not, they do not come to us in an "adoptable" condition. It is through hard work, saintly patience, and a lot of love and compassion that our volunteers are able to help these cats transform into "respectable" pets!
Most of our cats have either been evicted from their homes or are children of "evictees". They arrive after having experienced varying degrees of hardship, both at the hands of uncaring and abusive owners, and while trying to cope on their own out in the hostile street environment, where they suffer hunger, frostbite, injuries - often fatal, and even poisoning - by humans who view them as mere pests.
NTCR is also unique among other shelters. Our no cage policy means our kitties are free to romp and play; they are provided with the opportunity to learn to "play nice" with others, animal and human, and to experience a life style that is as close to the home life they will have when they find their forever homes. Our cats live in compatible groupings, each group having its own room in the shelter.
A community project. In addition to providing a home for our cats, our shelter is also a community project, where school children come to experience hands on caring for the animals. It is through this type of community service, that they learn the value of giving and caring.
This community project needs your help! By giving a home to one of our cats, you become part of the animal rescue effort! An added benefit - each adoption makes room for another desperate animal to be brought in from the cold.
