With summer here☀, it’s important to know how to keep your dog cool and comfortable, and to know the signs if they are not. ⁣
⁣
Most breeds are built to conserve rather than dissipate heat. They don’t have sweat glands, and most of their body is wrapped in fur with little or no exposed skin. As a result, they lose heat through the pads of their feet 🐾 and through their mouths by panting.⁣ What can you do to make the heat more enjoyable?
⁣
➡ Keep them hydrated⁣
➡ Walk them at cooler times of the day (early morning or late evening)⁣
➡ Be mindful of how hot the pavement/sidewalk is. If it’s too hot for your hand to touch, it’s too hot for your dog. ⁣
➡ Let them rest/take breaks⁣
➡ Use a small kids pool they can play in⁣
➡ Use a cooling mat or cooling bandana⁣
➡ Get a fan⁣
➡ Provide enough shade⁣
➡ Use water mists or sprinklers⁣
⁣
Know the Signs of Heat Stroke! Heat stroke can be fatal and requires urgent veterinary attention. Be sure to look out for these signs:⁣
🚨 Heavy Drooling⁣
🚨 Weakness and/or fatigue⁣
🚨 Excessive panting/Unusual breathing (rapid and loud)⁣
🚨 Frequent Vomiting or diarrhea
🚨 Skin around the muzzle or neck doesn’t snap back when pinched (indicating dehydration)⁣
🚨 Rapid Heartbeat⁣
🚨 Disorientation⁣
🚨 Purple gums and redness of the skin⁣
⁣
If you spot any symptoms, move your dog in a shady spot and keep them still. Offer them plenty of water and dampen their coat with tepid water. Contact your vet immediately.⁣

To keep cool this summer, we’re sharing a droolworthy pupsicle recipe we think your dog will love you for making it! ❤️

Ingredients Required: ⁣
☀️ 2 Bananas
☀️ ½ cup All-Natural Peanut Butter (that doesn’t contain xylitol) ⁣
☀️ 1 tsp Honey ⁣
☀️ 1 Cup Milk of Choice (dairy, oat, or almond) ⁣
☀️ 8 x 6” Bully Sticks ⁣
☀️ Popsicle Mold ⁣
☀️ EXTRA: Crushed up dog treats ⁣
⁣
Instructions: ⁣
👉 Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. ⁣
👉 Pour into a popsicle mold, add the bully sticks (in replacement of regular popsicle sticks) and place it into your freezer for a minimum of 5 hours. ⁣
