Cedar started her first day of the one week intensive program for e-collar conditioning.
Wishlist:
-Recall
-Heel / eliminate pulling
-Eliminate reactivity
-Teach her an alternative to being underfoot while the family is cooking, eating, and as guests come in the house.
-Drop and leave items
-Be chill around the cat
-Learn to respect thresholds like the front and back door, the garage, and the kitchen.

I've been working closely with Taylor from over the last few days. Recently she took on Willow, a foster who desperately needs help.
This is by no means always the situation, however for Willow, this is yet another case where PP training did not decrease stress, but in fact it increased stress. For an overwhelmed dog, setting clear boundaries, laying down structure in and out of the home, and offering clear yes and no guidance, will help her feel significantly less stressed. Doing this will allow Willow to draw a map, which will help her navigate the lay of the land, in a new place she doesn't understand.
Willow will be receiving balanced training. A combo of treats & ecollar, play & rest, frisbee chasing & obedience, alone time & cuddle time. She's a sweet girl who deserves it all. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress Taylor makes with her over the next few weeks.

Aza has started his one week intensive e-collar program. Together we will be working on both an on & off leash heel, recall, drop it and leave it (out), the place command, greeting guests in the home, reactivity towards other dogs, and in general begin to overhaul his excitement level.
The reality here with Aza is that his owners have worked with multiple pure positive trainers, with very little real life success. Though he has a great foundation in obedience because of PP training, it goes out the window, when he's out the door. Aza has not been walked much over a 2 month period due to his pulling and reactive behaviour. PP training has it's limitations and is taking far too long for Aza...and at this point, it's just eating away at his lifestyle. When it gets this bad, can we really say that pure positive training is the most humane approach? I argue that a humane lifestyle is in fact more important. Not exploring different training methods that may potentially open up your dog's whole world!... well I just cannot get on the bandwagon. The word humane is far too dynamic to look at it on such a flat surface, and this is why every single day I advocate for a humane lifestyle.
I should really end by saying that to this day I still use a lot of techniques I did when I was a pure positive trainer. I believe that pure positive has pushed balanced trainers to become more compassionate, more understanding, and more balanced, than ever before. I would not have been able to give Aza what he needed today if I had not taken sweet tokens of information from multiple different training techniques and methods.

Sleepy time Place practice. Francis has never been in my home. Because of this, he and my dog Sage are being kept separated, on their beds. They are just existing and being at peace in each other's company.
