This month, we are hosting Dr. Graham Thompson of Western University. Graham's work has recently come to focus on the health of honey bees and their ability to resist environmental stress. One popular yet scientifically unexplored approach to promoting bee health is to supplement their feeds with living bacteria that support the bee’s gut microbiome to aid with digestion, nutrient extraction, immunity, and other possible effects that are relevant to beekeeping. Graham will explain how the microbiology of bee gut health could shape the practice of beekeeping in the years ahead.
