Hello heritage kennel community!

We are popping in to let everyone know some kennel management news.

Our boss and owner Beth, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. We caught it early and have a treatment plan in place. We are feeling positive and thank everyone for their thoughts and concerns.

Because of the treatment plan, Beth will be taking some time off this summer, so you will see some different faces around the kennel. Please rest assured that the care of your animals is our top priority. Beth has assembled a team of employees to cover her for the summer that she trusts with the care of your pets. Beth will still be around this summer to see everyone as much as she is able, and to ensure everything is running smoothly. Beth hopes to be back to full time in the fall depending on her treatments. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

If you know your holiday dates, please let us know immediately. We hate to turn away our regulars, but unless you book soon there will be no room left at the inn!

New Rates

Effective for new bookings after June 1st. Note: all current bookings will be unaffected.

One dog: 22.50/day plus tax
Two dogs (same kennel): 40/day plus tax
One cat: 15.50/day plus tax
Two cats (same kennel): 25/day plus tax

Final day free if morning pick up!

Dog found on Michigan Line between Wyoming and Forest. He is currently at heritage kennels, 4837 egremont road.

Hello everyone! I often lend out toys, books, puzzles and harnesses to our customers. Unfortunately, I do not always keep the best track of who is borrowing what. If you are currently borrowing something from us, and you’ve had it for over a month, please return it so that we can continue lending out supplies to those that need it.

A rainy day is a great opportunity to try new enrichment ideas! This one is Lester’s favorite. I collect ‘clean’ garbage (cereal boxes, take out cups, paper towel rolls, etc) and fill them with treats and kibble. Then I throw it all in a box and let him at it!

Lester has always been a fan of garbage. He will take any opportunity to get into it. I love giving him a chance to get his ripping, shredding, and foraging instincts out in a controlled setting.

It may seem counter intuitive— but When he is able to do this activity—he gets into the garbage less, not more.

Hey everyone!

One of the things I love about the kennel is that it gives me many hands on opportunities to practice what I have learned about dogs and cats.

One thing I am currently practicing is teaching dogs to walk well on loose leash. Well I know that this is something that takes time, practice and dedication, I have also learned alot about what tools can help with the learning process.

I would love to be able to have a collection of harnesses available at the kennel, to see what works best for differnt dogs. I am currently buying all the ones I find at thrift stores. However, I am specifically on the look out for nose harnesses (also called gentle leaders) and front clip harnesses. If anyone has any of these laying around unused, I would love if you would consider donating them to us!

An extra special Mother’s Day shout out to my Mom, Sandy!

I am so excited to announce that she has officially joined the Heritage Kennel Team.

Some of you have already had the pleasure of meeting her. She has been helping at the kennel unofficially since we began—doing office work, attending the boarding conference with me, cleaning, and SO MUCH LAUNDRY. I am SO excited to have her officially join us. I wouldn’t be able to do it without her.

She will be running the kennel phone, making bookings, and helping around the office. Olivia will continue to operate Facebook and email. I will continue doing what I do best, which is caring for your wonderful fur friends.

She doesn’t have Facebook, but my Dad will show her this anyway, so please make sure she feels so welcome!

Looking for a quick and easy enrichment activity? Try bubbles!
Gradually Exposing your pet to new things is a great way to help them with anxiety and stress. Bubbles are a fun, easy new thing to try for you and your pet!

Are you running out of ideas to keep your pet occupied this winter?

Try taking them on a ‘sniffari’. Dogs are naturally inclined to sniff, so take the time on your walks to let them stop and smell what they want too. This is also known as a decompression walk. It’s a great time for your pet to let loose and explore the world around them. If you already do this with your pet, try switching up your walking route and take them somewhere new! You can also use a long line (like I did with Rose) to give them a bit more freedom on this adventure.

Did you know that mental enrichment can be just as tiring as physical enrichment? Finding cheap ways to incorporate enrichment into your dogs life will benefit them, and you!

Are you running out of ideas to keep your pet occupied this winter? Try a snow treasure hunt! I like to pop a few holes in the snow with a broom handle and drop treats inside. Then I let the dogs sniff and dig them out! They LOVE it!!

You can do this with treats or with their regular kibble to make feeding time more exciting!!

We had a great day today at the kennel! The weather held out for our puppy social and although we had a small group this time they all did sooo well! Don’t worry the big dogs got some time out after getting to watch the puppies play this afternoon.
