Meet Kim Yawney certified BI with CanTRA! She bought her first horse, a 3 year old just 30 years ago and trained 4 horses since, one who became a national show horse! She started volunteering 15 years ago and has been with NFTRA for one and a half years.

Meet handsome FINN! Born in 2003 he joined NFTRA in 2012, and Andalusian cross and his fancy Spanish moves come out when he’s playing in the field! He’s a really sweet horse who was also an eventer in his youth. Finn is perfect for riders who need a narrow base. Word of warning to the other program horses (except BFF Teddy) while he loves grooming them he can be quite naughty! Oh also he likes to lie down in water even with a rider on him!

Meet TEDDY a handsome Fjord Welsh pony cross! He came to NFTRA in 2003 when he was 6. He likes smaller riders and he has a very laid back disposition under saddle. However… he can be a bit naughty when he’s hungry and quite a good escape artist!
He’s best friends with Finn whom you’ll meet next! Teddy is well loved and cared for!

Austin agreed to be her practice student while her mentor Julie observes her teaching skill. Thank you to our amazing suppliers! Nelson if Augustine Soil & Mulch brings our stall sawdust every few months. Jen & Steve share the work- Jen puts it in stalls, once it’s soiled from the horses it gets recycled into garden soil which Hank’s Trucking picks up for us! Thanks guys!

North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association (NFTRA) is a non-profit charitable organization enriching the lives of children and adults who experience physical, mental, emotional or social challenges by providing safe and professional therapeutic equine programming.

NFTRA has been providing therapeutic riding in Maple Ridge for over 40 years. We service all communities north of the Fraser River from West Vancouver to Mission. We have over 100 adults and children receiving weekly therapeutic riding lessons in four sessions per year. We have a full staff of part time Instructors, Barn Workers, a Barn Manager, Program Manager and Office Manager . We rely heavily on over 100 amazing & dedicated volunteers per week to successfully run our program.

The North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association (NFTRA) has an annual operating budget of over $335,000. It is an ongoing challenge to meet our annual budget, and to continue providing this unique and unparalleled form of therapy. It is only through the generosity of our donors and sponsors, that we are able to do so for an ever growing number of individuals in need.
