I often get asked what the difference is between “Behaviour Modification” and “Training”...🐾🐶

And I couldn’t have summed it up better than the wonderful late Sophia Yin.💗

Behaviour Modification is about changing an animal’s emotional experience around a situation - think of it as “therapy” - and is intended to teach coping skills and change brain neurochemistry.🌟🐶

Training on the other hand is all about the “operant”, what behaviours an animal can perform in response to a specific cue or antecedent setting. Don’t get me wrong, there absolutely may be a place for this in some situations, however, I always think about the emotional experience first and what I can do to change and improve it.🤩🐕

Community Canines: Take your skills to the next level with added challenges in distraction, duration, and distance for well-behaved dogs in public.

Tricks Class: Bond with your dog while improving focus, and attention, through fun and mentally stimulating trick training.

Jumps and Tunnels Class: Enhance your dog’s focus, drive, and engagement using jumps and tunnels for fun and skill-building.

Calm and Confident Class: Boost your dog's confidence and relaxation through engaging enrichment games and activities designed to promote calmness and self-assurance.

Private Training: Get one-on-one tailored support for obedience, behaviour modification, or specialized skills to meet your unique goals.

Please ensure your pets vaccinations are up to date!

We'd like to inform County residents about a local outbreak of canine distemper.

The Grande Prairie Regional Pound is aware of this and is proactively taking steps to reduce the risk to the public and their pets.

Here’s what you can do to protect your dogs:

> If your dog’s vaccinations are not up to date, avoid dog parks and areas where pets gather.
> Ensure your dog is vaccinated. Distemper primarily affects unvaccinated animals of all ages.
> Do not let your pets roam at large to reduce exposure risks.

If your dog has not received their vaccinations, contact your veterinarian. Taking precautions now can help keep your pets safe and healthy.

🎄 It’s Hard to Believe It’s December! 🎄

December often feels like a whirlwind, and we’re prioritizing some downtime to spend with our own dogs and families. 🐾❤️

This week marks the end of our group classes for the year, and we’re so grateful for everyone who joined us! Group classes will be back in January! 🐕 Keep an eye on our page—we’re aiming to have the January schedule finalized this week!

For those looking to get a head start on training, we will have a limited number of private training spots available in December.
