Two new classes starting in April: Tuesdays -April 9 - May 14, 2024 5:00 - 6:00 pm at the Odd Fellows Hall in Armstrong (3005 Wood Ave)

Introduction to Scent Work
The class is limited to 6 dogs. 5 weeks $165.00
For handlers and dog teams that have not started odor. We will work on building drive and desire to work for scent using a primary reward. By the end of the session, we will be pairing food with your first odor, birch.

Guided Practice:
During the guided practice, your dog will increase their searching skills and odor obedience. Dogs must already be on the birch odor at the minimum. During the class, the hides will continue to be paired with primary rewards while we will add new and increasingly difficult search challenges. We will also focus on building your dog's drive and stamina for searching. Over the course of the 5 weeks, cypress and clove bud may be introduced (if not already known) and used.

Don’t put your child or your dog in this unfortunate position.

This is one of the scariest stock images I have seen so far.

Wow! It’s important that you check your dog frequently! Not just paws but the legs as well.

Social distancing? Self isolation? Have a puppy? It can be challenging to ‘socialize’ a puppy in the big, wide world while staying at home. Come up with some creative costumes- hats, wigs, walking poles to have your pup experience some of these things.

Are you looking for something different to do this winter that is indoors? Check out Lisa Petterson's Online Canine Fitness Course. Bodi and I just completed our first 12 week class. So many benefits resulted. Firstly and most importantly, we both enjoyed it! Then there was Bodi’s improved muscle tone especially his rear end, he has a more balanced stance, and an improved top line. A deeper relationship between us resulted in the daily activities. An unexpected bonus was that after a 10-15 min. session he was ready for a nap (after all he was using his brain and muscles to complete the tasks.)
No special equipment was required. Just video your sessions and upload them onto the private page. Feedback is timely with Lisa offering encouragement as well as suggestions for improvement.

Let me share another AMAZING progression over the course of 3 months!

This is Bodi, a 4.5 year old Border Collie.

He is involved in agility and sheep herding, and his owner wanted to make sure he can enjoy both those sports for as long as physically possible!!

I am happy to see Bodi's obvious improvements over the course within the "before" and "after" photos.

You can see in red his limb measurements in September and again in December.

What HUGE improvements of muscle gain there!! :O
It is almost unbelievable... but it is true!!

That is what happens when you focus on the correct posture and form of each exercise - your dog can build the muscle in the right places!

Before the course, both myself and the owner noticed an interesting thing... Bodi had quite a pronounced "waddle" with his rear end while walking.

As this is typical of hip dysplasia and/or iliopsoas tightness/soreness/injury, I made sure that those issues were ruled out before beginning the program.
Hip x-rays had been taken, and he showed no signs of hip dysplasia!

He was also thoroughly checked by a canine physiotherapist, and has been working with a chiropractor, and was cleared for exercise!

So we began, and the improvements in his gait are excellent to see (no video here, but I will try to share some soon!)

I am super proud of how hard Bodi's mom worked with him these last 3 months, and I am very excited to continue to work with them in the new year

Is It Best to Stay Away?

A great reminder! Not all dogs or people want to visit with you and your dog. Keep your dog near you and under control. Watch the body language! Ask “Is it best to stay away?”

My dog Swift and I were enjoying our walk in the park this morning when I saw a man and his dog off in the distance, heading our way. As they got closer I noticed a very happy Doodle who was hoping to have an encounter with a new K9 buddy. I asked Swift to come to my side, shortene
