Do your fruit trees need some pruning? Even if your fruit trees have been neglected for years you can restore them to a better structure for concentrating fruit production and harvesting. If your fruit trees need some attention you can message me. There are only a few weeks left before the season starts.

We have five varieties of Asian pears growing in the garden. For the last two weeks we’ve been enjoying the first of the golden pears. Today I started harvesting the second golden variety and it abundant. This is the one coming to the market stand on Thursday. Next will come Aonashi the green pear. The little brown one is a storing kind that has a cinnamon flavour. The last one is Nashi the giant pear. They are traditionally given with a ribbon tied around it because they are so impressive. These pears have never been sprayed did not travel across the ocean to get hear. They are resistant to many pest. The Japanese beetle do not eat them or their leaves. Birds have nested in them and they are becoming part of the ecology in this garden. Great fruit for our region.

I’m so looking forward to this tour. I’m going to be a tourist and take the day off. I’ve been wanting to get to the Paper Boat Farm and haven’t had the chance. Pioneers, Jamie and Matt’s aquaponics at Cornerstone organics is so cool. Also Patrick and his family at Dream Small Farm are rocking it. I can’t wait to see the progress in this new farm. I hope there are eggs left at Halfway Homestead and I’m going to Jamink family farm to order my meet for the season. Don’t forget the pastries at Butt et Bin my family would not forgive me. I’m going to geek out.

16 days and counting until Savour the Field tour. We have been busy getting things ready. Come join us and see what great things grow in SD&G &g

Our Story

Pitt Street Garden is starting its third year of an urban market garden. With 1 acre of vegetable production planned to make 100 shares in a food box program. The edge of the property is being developed into perennial system of fruit trees and a mixture of berry plants in the permaculture style. The green room is always growing micro green to start the Community Supported Agriculture food box program and for the farmers market. PSG also offers gardening and tree pruning workshops in the spring.
