Crazy hot out there. Too hot to cart a cell phone for pictures and with the smoke, its stuffy. Will try harder tomorrow. Even at 8 AM the dogs were looking for water. Sweet peas kept going to the pool looking for a dip.

Without reaching out and without any hidden agenda, I post this because talking about grief is perhaps the best therapy for losing a dog. About 3 weeks ago, my Laika took her final rest after a long struggle with cancer and everyday has been a struggle since. Yesterday, I went to the shelter to visit the dogs. I was preparing myself to keep a straight face. I made it as far as K2. There, Buddy and Sweet pea showered me with love. That is when I broke down. Alone, in their kennel, I weeped and I healed. It is never easy to get over the loss of a dog, but zootherapy is perhaps the best way to deal with it. Everyday that I can escape for a few hours and spend time with dogs is a blessing. These days, it seems to be harder and harder to make time to volunteer. I consider myself fortunate to be allowed to walk alongside the staff and give the dogs much needed love. Not a day goes by without being grateful for this opportunity. My Laika was a rescue from the Edmonton SPCA and she, like many other rescue had that attitude that made her so special. She was by far, the best dog I ever had and she will be dearly missed.
