Today we lost a small elder dog in our community because large dogs are being allowed to roam. Owners continue to disregard the bylaw and these are the consequences. Despite our best efforts, he went home last night and he will be missed.
Keep your dogs at home - there are too many roaming.
Thanks to IFAW and their amazing team of professionals, we have another very successful Spay and Neuter clinic in the books! 33 surgeries, multiple grooms, wellness checks, a mass excision, and 20 vaccinations.
Spaying and neutering your pets saves lives and keeps our community safe.
Nemaska is an example for other communities and a healthier place to call home because you all choose to be responsible pet guardians.
Canada is in crisis and shelters are overflowing. Every pup we can prevent from being born and going into the system, saves space for animals already struggling to find a home.

Temperatures today are going to be 30+ degrees. Please keep your pets indoors and provide them with plenty of fresh drinking water. If outside, provide them with a cool, shady shelter and plenty of fresh drinking water at all times.
This post sums up many of the things our Animal Control and Wellness Department in Nemaska has been saying for a very long time.
Nemaska as a nation has been working hard to keep the community safe and healthy. The wellness of the community is directly reflected in the health of the dog population. A healthy pet population shows a community that cares, nurtures, and is proactive in responding to animal welfare issues.
We need to keep working toward a healthy and responsible sense of animal guardianship in our community. Work with us and watch all members of our community, including the pets, thrive!

We are now offering the Bordatella vaccine locally. We have Bordatella outbreaks almost every year in Nemaska.
Bordatella also known as “Kennel Cough” is a highly contagious respiratory virus passed between dogs. It is not contagious to people, but can be life threatening for young pups, elderly, or sick dogs.
The vaccine is offered for $30.00 and is administered orally. It is recommended for all dogs in social situations, who are boarded, regularly taken to groomers, dog parks, etc.
At the moment I have 22 vaccines available.

The Bordetella vaccine is used to prevent kennel cough in dogs that are predisposed to the disease. In this article, Dr. Brittany Kleszynski explains everything there is to know about the Bordetella vaccine for dogs.
Flea and tick season is back! As temperatures rise globally, ticks are increasing in numbers everywhere. We have ticks in Eeyou Itschee and you need to protect your pets at all times, but especially when in the bush. Pets should be checked regularly for ticks and if found, they need to be pulled properly. Please contact Fuller, or message us via our page if you need help pulling a tick, or have any questions.
You also need to protect yourself by checking your skin for ticks regularly after being in the bush, or out in nature.
Hunters have been reporting tick infested rabbits caught locally, so the danger is very real. Rabbits or any animal with a large number of ticks present when harvested, should not be eaten.
You can and should purchase flea, tick, and mosquito (protects against heart worm in your pet) preventative for your pets. It is to be applied monthly during spring, summer, and early fall.

Please register your pet! Registration is ongoing! So far 70 responsible pet owners have registered their pets.
To register, your pet must be up to date on vaccines, which can be done on the spot and a fee of $10 must be paid.
Please message us here on the page, or inbox Evelyn Fuller to set up a time to fill out your paperwork and pick up your tag.
Those that registered their pet early (by March 1st) will take part in a draw for a doggie prize bundle. The draw will take place after Goose Break 🙂
Here’s some sage advice sent to me this morning by a responsible pet owner in Nemaska!
Please keep your pets inside as much as possible!
‼️Winter Storm and Severe Cold Warning in effect‼️
All pets should be indoors! No pets should be roaming, visibility is poor and so are road conditions. They are at risk of getting hurt, or causing an accident, so keep them home.
Temperatures will be in the -40s with windchill tonight and the next few days. Don’t be cruel, bring all pets inside and only let out for short potty breaks. Oh and NO, your dog is not conditioned to these temps - they just can’t tell you how badly they suffer when left out 😡💔
There is a winter storm warning in effect. We will have a considerable amount of snow overnight which will turn to freezing rain and wind gusts tomorrow will be very strong. Conditions and visibility will be poor. Keep your dogs home and indoors. They deserve to have shelter from the storm too 💔🐾❤️

‼️Extreme cold warning over the next few days‼️-40 at some points with the windchill ‼️
Your pets should not be outside for prolonged periods and need to be brought in at night.
Temps with windchill are going to be brutal this evening, tonight and in the morning. Bring your pets inside. You can be fined if we are notified that your pet has slept outdoors in these temps. It can be fatal for them and it is ALWAYS extremely painful to suffer through such torturous temps.

We’ve got a big tournament in town this weekend and lots of families visiting. More people means more traffic and almost every year during tournaments we have pets injured or even killed after being run over.
Please keep your pets at home and keep them safe.
‼️Remember, as per bylaw, pets are not allowed to be roaming on the land without their owner, so they should be at home or supervised by you when out.‼️

Heated water bowls. I asked the owner if they work in colder weather. She said they do and the one she had before lasted 6 years. That’s pretty good 👍🏼
🦠 Kennel Cough going around🦠 We know of 3 other dogs that had it. It’s contagious (not to humans). Keep your dogs home and tied. Check comments for info on Kennel cough.
It’s that time of the year when dogs shed their coats (fall too). Niyaan Waapikun purchased a Furminator grooming rake from the supplies we have for sale at the firehall. It’s important to brush your dog when they shed. Helps them regulate their temperature better in winter/summer, less matted fur is good for their skin and cuts down the stinky dog smell. Also, they just look so much better with all that dead fur gone 🙂 Thanks Niyaan
