Betrayed and abused by our “best friend and ally”.

To my American friends …. You know me. Some of you since the 70’s. I’ve ALWAYS supported the USA and I love each of you. Please read my long message. It’s important.
What happened today, what your president did, is NOT ok. It is plain and simple, WRONG. I can’t be silent anymore.
We are NOT THE ENEMY.
There are enemies out there against USA, yes, but it is not CANADA. WTH????
I’ve stayed quiet until now. I’ve been watching and praying for a different outcome, that reason would prevail.
But here we are. It didn’t.
The 25% tariff that Trump just imposed on us, your neighbour, ally and best friend…well, is unconscionable. And unfortunately, because of this ridiculousness, our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and the premiers have had no choice and have done the same to the USA and retaliated. They had no recourse.
Trade war? WTH??? With your best friend? Really?
Canada is a strong and resilient country. And we will NOT be bullied.
The lies about Canada, phentanol problems and the illegal immigrant charges - are just that, lies. Fact check it please. Less than 1% of the issues come from Canada for both. It is not us. Other countries yes, major percentages, coming into the US, but it’s not from Canada.
We just committed to 1.3 billion on our side to help combat this horrible epidemic.
Your president played us. Please note: not a thing was committed to from the USA side of the border, NOTHING, while we deal with over 80% of illegal guns brought here over the border through the US. We don’t bear arms here, so these guns are destined to go straight to the bad guys.
And then, the huge influx of illegals coming into Canada… from the USA side. And drugs…please fact check it. You will be shocked.
This whole 25% tariff is a tactic to get at our resources. That’s it. Sad but true. Just like Greenland. Nope, not happening.
We are not for sale. EVER!
Canada and the USA have been allies for over 100 years. We have stood beside you, through it all. Been your brothers and sisters.
World War I and II. We both lost soldiers side by side. And other wars fought together too. Too many to mention. Canadians have ALWAYS been there for you and you for us. It is just what we did.
We brought Americans home from Iran in the crisis through our Canadian embassy, we sent our people to Katrina to rebuild, landed 300 planes and housed and fed 6000 Americans on our East Coast and treated them like family- staying in our homes in Newfoundland until they could go home during 911. Sent our firefighters to ground zero and twin towers to help, and today, right this minute, RIGHT NOW, and for the past weeks our water planes and our fire fighters are in California to help.
Again, there is no reason to hurt the wrong people. Canada is a friend. We have been there time after time after time.
Again… we won’t be bullied. Sadly, this will hurt both USA and Canada.
Jobs will be lost in both countries. Cost of goods will rise. Inflation will rise and more. It may hurt Canadians more for now, but make no mistake… we will stand strong for Canada and we will not give in. We are TOUGH.
For now, our countries are separated by a man so uncaring and rude that he said we should be a 51st state, called our Prime Minister a governor, was condescending, and said Wayne Gretzky should run our country.
How disgusting and disrespectful.
And thought it was funny. It’s not funny.
Canadians are angry, I’m angry. We are done.
We can be kind, polite, caring. It’s our nature.
But don’t mess with us. We are a proud and tough nation… we will find other trade partners if we have to. The USA is not the only country that wants our resources. Up until now, our two countries have worked together with a trade agreement that worked.
So, if we have to, we can sell our oil to others. Our electricity too, our water, our minerals, our resources. It will take us time to do this, but make no mistake…. Canadians are ready to hunker down and support each other no matter what the political preference.
We will buy Canadian, do without if we can’t get it here, and support Canadian companies.
Costco? Nope. Walmart? Nope. Shell? Nope. Heinz? Nope. To name a few.
We will buy from Canadian companies only, small and large. Or go offshore to buy. There are countries in queue waiting for us to do business with them.
I may lose friends over this post. I hope not. My heart is so very sad today. ❤️🩹
I’m heartbroken and not sure this can be fixed. And even if it is, we were simply betrayed. By who we thought was our best friend. It’s a sad, sad day in both our histories. A day I’ll never forget.
Your president has awakened a beast in Canadians. We did not ask for this, nor do we deserve it.
But we are proud and patriotic to our people and our country will stand against this.
This is all on him… so blame him in the days to come when your gas, cars and every day goods you buy become unaffordable.
And watch his billionaire friends become richer on your backs.
No other president in our history has done this to Canada or ever would.
Raegan, RFK, EVERY president, Republican or Democrat called us friend and ally.
