MANITOBA PARVOVIRUS OUTBREAK!!

THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!!! Share with everyone you know!!

There’s been dozens of reported cases of the canine parvovirus in fly in communities, drive up communities and in WINNIPEG!!! Both puppies and adults!! This is extremely concerning!!

Any dog who is not vaccinated is at high risk!

Some facts about parvo:
-it’s not contagious to humans (only dogs)
-there is no cure, only supportive treatment like IV fluids, anti nausea, anti diarrhea medicine
-it is extremely costly to try and treat, often costing over $2000 per dog and multiple days in hospital.
-death rates are over 80% if left untreated (usually 100% of the time)
-it is HIGHLY contagious and spread through dog to dog contact AND on clothing, shoes, bags and on soft and hard surfaces.
-Lysol does not kill the virus. Only hospital grade disinfectants like Virox, Rescue, Accel, Cavi Wipes and bleach do.
-main symptoms for parvo include no history of vaccines and vomiting, diarrhea, not eating and very sleepy. Their diarrhea will have a very strong smell and can have blood in it.
-if you think your puppy is sick, contact your nearest veterinary clinic. If none are available, try and reach out to a shelter or rescue group in your area. If none available, try to keep your puppy drinking water.

THE NUMBER ONE WAY TO PREVENT THIS DEADLY VIRUS IS VACCINATING WHEN YOUR DOG IS HEALTHY! Sick dogs cannot get vaccines.

Spread the word and tell your leaders we need more vaccine clinics in the province!!!

As of 3:00 today, our fundraiser jackpot was just shy of $17,000, and the Fundraising Committee is projecting that number to rise to $20,000 by the draw date, August 30th! That's a cool 10K just for you if you have the winning ticket!

This Fundraiser is being run by the Jewish Child & Family Service in Winnipeg to help support their Mental Health & Wellness initiatives for the children, youth, couples, adults, and seniors who are currently in their care and for future clients in need.
