Today is officially Work from Home day- with your dog. The pandemic has certainly been a bonus for our pups. They are in heaven, hanging out with us while we have worked from home most of this past year. In fact many families were able to become pet owners for the first time. Dogs love companionship and so do humans. A perfect match!
Reward your dog for good behaviour while you work from home, as much as possible with a pat, a snuggle, sweet words, playing or a treat. It is healthy for both of you!

Fresh drinking water is a must for your pets! With summer officially here, our dogs are spending more time outside enjoying the nice weather and will get thirsty for a drink. Unfortunately, your dog will lap up road puddles, and dingy rain water with relish...they do not know that this is a bad idea.
If they are thirsty, all water looks the same. But dirty rain water can be full of parasites, and street puddles can have petroleum products from cars. So always provide your pup with a bowl of fresh water when they are outside or travelling. It may require a few refreshes if they are outside for an extended time.
My dog loves being outside under our big maple tree, but right now, the gypsy moth caterpillar droppings keep landing in her water bowl! So I change her water several times a day. A good practice for your dogs overall health.

Tips for making your pups nail trimming a pleasant experience for both of you. Nail trimming is a very important part of dog grooming, and trim nails are a sign of your dog’s good health and hygiene. Dog nail trimming is actually simple to do with good preparation and guidance.
Nail trimming can be a stressful experience for many dogs, but if you start handling your puppy’s feet and trimming their nails when they’re young, they will become accustomed to the process.
Getting Your Dog Comfortable
Believe it or not, you can have one of those rare dogs who doesn’t mind nail trimming one bit. But, if it takes your pup a little longer to get used to it, don’t despair. Be patient, keep a gentle and positive attitude, and continue to offer praise and treats. Make sure to use safe, dog-friendly clippers or grinders.
Tip: It helps if you frequently touch and hold your puppy’s paws (gently and cheerfully) right from the first day, so they won’t become sensitive to having their feet handled. The following tips are provided by the American Kennel Club:
• Day 1: Let your puppy sniff the nail clipper or grinder. Give a treat and praise.
• Day 2: Touch the nail clipper or grinder lightly to each paw. Give a treat and praise.
• Day 3: Touch the nail clipper to each paw and squeeze the clipper so the puppy hears the sound, or turn the grinder on and let the puppy feel the vibration. Don’t actually trim a nail. Give a treat and praise.
• Day 4: Touch the nail clipper or grinder to your puppy’s feet again. Give a treat and praise.
• Day 5: Try trimming off just the very tiniest tip from one front paw nail. Only do one nail. Offer lots of happy praise and a treat if your puppy lets you. Even if he lets you, just do one. Repeat every day until he lets you do this and doesn’t seem to mind.
• Day 6: Try trimming just the tip off of just two nails.
• Day 7: Keep working your way up, trimming additional nails each day, until you’ve got them all and your puppy doesn’t mind. Practice even when you don’t need to clip a nail. Even pretending you are clipping and going through the motions help your pup get used to the whole process.

Is it a good idea to ride a bike with your dog? Dogs love to be out and about with you anytime. Taking your pup on a bike ride can be a delightful excursion....as long as safety is your top priority.
There are many innovative dog carrier products available that will keep your companion safe. Make sure they are secured in the carrier, so they cannot jump out on a whim. Dogs can be seriously injured if this occurs. And never ride with your dog tied to your bike. In this case, both you and your pup are likely to have a painful mishap.

Tips for capturing great photos of your dog.
Taking great photos of dogs is tricky to do. When you see that perfect photo moment when they are being oh so cute, funny or just plain adorable..... "where is my camera?" And if you have your camera ready, as soon as you point or click the camera button they in evidently look away, move suddenly and that 'moment' is lost. Here are some tips to help:
Keep your dogs attention by speaking to them with excitement in your voice. This way you will have their undivided attention.
Hold your free hand up in the air and snap your fingers. Their eyes will brighten, their ears will perk up and they will be fully engaged.
Take several photos at once so you have lots of opportunities to capture the perfect one.
Then you many options: print them, share them with your friends on social media and by email, turn them into computer screen savers or make photo albums.
No one ever says "I wish I had not taken so many pictures".
For action photos, adjust your camera speed and take many shots.
And of course, always reward your dog with praise or a treat. So they find photo taking a memorable and pleasant experience.

Road trips with dogs can be stressful for both the owner and your pooch. Here are 3 tips to help make your road trips a pleasure!
1. Take your pup for short car rides to get them used to being in a moving car. If they act up, stop the car and when they calm down reward them with a little treat. Repeat this until your pup looks forward and excited about riding with you in the car!
2. Always travel with a jug of water and a small bowl. Stop frequently and offer them a drink, especially if the weather is hot. And of course NEVER leave your pup unattended in a hot car.
3. Plan on some stops for a little walk about in interesting places. Let your pup sniff around and explore. This keeps them engaged and excited about future road trips! https://rb.gy/axk4u1

Tips for enjoying the summer season with your pets. Keep your dog's paws cool.
When the sun is cooking, surfaces like asphalt or metal can get really hot! Try to keep your pet off of hot asphalt; not only can it burn paws, but it can also increase body temperature.

I have a rule of thumb with my dog, it may sound a little weird but I find it’s a safe way to make sure you’re not going to burn your dogs feet on the asphalt!

If I decide it’s a beautiful day to walk on the road and its hot, I take off a shoe and put my foot on the asphalt, I figure if its too hot for my bare feet than imagine what its like for your dogs feet! The other thing to consider is the size of your dog, my Samoyeds face is approximately 12 inches off the ground, always having larger breed dogs I never considered the radiation factor of the road as much, until I got a 7lb Sheepoo, her little face is about 4 inches from the road surface, the little ones get the radiation directly to their entire bodies instantly.

Never, never, put your dog in the back of a pick up truck, anytime! Consider that they are in a hot metal bin and they could get severely burned and want to exit the vehicle.

I find the best thing to do on those beautiful hot summer days is let your dog stay in shaded areas or just let them play on the grass where their feet stay cool and they will love you for it!!
Soothe your pet's paws by applying our Paw & Skin lick safe cream. The extracts of Neem and Propolis provide excellent antiseptic and antifungal properties that speed up the healing process.

No matter the time, no matter the place, no matter the day, our pets always make the world a little brighter. Regardless to how tough things may seem, pets eagerly provide comfort, sympathy, and unquestioned understanding when we most need it. This May 2 – 7, celebrate National Pet Week by recognizing our fun loving family members who give us everything, asking only for a smile in return…and maybe an occasional treat.

04/05/2021

Believe it or not, your dog does not know that some human foods are actually dangerous, even poisonous for them to eat. It is up to us to make sure they do not get access to harmful foods. We may think that a human food treat will make our dog happy. But they really just crave the love, affection and attention you are giving them. It is wise to just fuss and cuddle them instead of feeding them potentially dangerous human treats.

Be vigilant. Dogs are natural opportunists when it comes to food. If they come across it, they will eat it. Their incredible noises can track down the smallest tidbit. They find things while out on walks, in parks, garbage cans and even things in the house if left accessible. Watch out for these worst offenders:
Avocado, grapes, raisins, anything sweet, chocolate, caffeine and milk. These items can cause harmful digestive inflammation, kidney and liver damage, long term nervous system issues and in some cases, sadly, death.

We love our pups. Stick to safe healthy treats designed for dogs. They will love you for it. https://holisticpets.ca/collections/treats

Your pup has been inside for most of the winter. It is time to brush out that winter undercoat and let their skin breath. Remember to be patient, soothing and gentle during this dreaded task. Depending on your breed, it may be best to do it in stages. They will appreciate it and be ready for a bath. https://holisticpets.ca/collections/pet-shampoo

Yesterday was National Animal Crackers Day. It’s a perfect day to celebrate that childhood memory again. Pick up some animal crackers at your local grocery store and share them with your family. Make your favorite dessert using animal crackers. They’re great for dipping or adding to a fruit tray, too. Kids love them!
Include your pets with Riplees Ranch Treats. Made with wild fish and blueberries.
Animal crackers first came to the United States in the late 1800s when the U.S. imported animal-shaped cookies from England. In 1902, animal crackers officially became known as Barnum’s Animals and evoked the familiar circus train theme of the Barnum and Bailey Circus. Later that year, Nabisco designed the now-familiar box with a string for the Christmas season to hang from the Christmas tree. They were a big hit in 1902 and still are today.
