Dear 2022:
We’re coming for you! ✨

As we celebrate 7 years of Hare & Hound, we reflect on how lucky and grateful we are to see these lovely faces every day.

To offer family and consistency to these kiddos as we celebrate their nature, independence and individuality in this rollercoaster world of emotions and unpredictability.

The escape, comfort and hope they offer us, in return, is two-fold. So much love packed into these petite furry frames!

An entire species making do with little freedom and autonomy, and ever changing rules they can barely keep up with. FOR AGES.

2021 has brought us closer to our dogs in more ways than simply sharing the same space.

Here’s to a new year of empathy, admiration and exploration with these little cuties! 🥂

Gisele here 🙋🏻‍♀️ founder and team leader at .ca sharing a pretty major milestone in my career.

With over a decade of experience working with dogs in a multitude of industries (veterinary, shelter, pet care), my biggest takeaway to date is most definitely ~ whatever you knew is old news ~

In the pet care industry alone, we have some of the largest unregulated and *essential* professions in the world operating on super outdated anecdotal methods that cause serious long-term harm to an entire species. Largely unaware of the profound impacts of their own actions, those well-intentioned humans are missing a piece of the puzzle: science.

The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) is the leading independent certifying organization for the dog training profession. There are folks out there investing an incredible amount of time and resources into promoting a minimum ethical standard and a basic understanding of behavior sciences from those working so closely with our dogs on a daily basis.

To achieve their Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed certification, I submitted:
• hundreds of hours in training log from the past three years
• a statement from a CCPDT trainer 🙏🏼
• my commitment to their Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics and the Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive (LIMA) Effective Behavior Intervention strategy
• my commitment to their continuous education requirements: yearly webinars, courses and conferences on the most current and progressive training methods
• and wrote a pretty dang long exam 😅

If you’re living and working with dogs in any capacity, please remember that *loving dogs* is such a wonderful starting point but ~ with great love comes great responsibility ~

Let’s make our doggos proud!

Thankful for our lovely hikers , .e.mackenzie and our client support team for their continuous investment in our endeavors.

Since Covid (aka March) we have crossed a lot more hikers and their pups exploring the wilderness. To safely manage all those greetings, we introduced a new cue to the dogs where we move off-trail and allow them to pass with minimal fuss.

Though they’re far from robots, the dogs have been doing amazing! And for every praise we get from passers by, my heart bursts with pride. ❤️

What are some courtesy moves you appreciate from others or have been teaching your dog on your own adventures?

I personally looove when hikers don’t talk to the dogs or try to pet one 🙃

on this day-ish, seven years ago, a handsome beast was born.

it was a cold winter day in Toronto-
01.25.2014, to be exact, that’s when i first laid eyes on him.

my team at was hosting an adoption event for the ever so lovely .

“he came to us as a random litter that was handed over to our rescue worker in attawapiskat”, they said. that happened a lot up north.

many people came and went; four pups found their forever homes.
but “luge”, as they called him- it wasn’t his lucky day.

how could i possibly forget that face?
*spoiler alert*
i couldn’t.

so on 01.28.2014, luge became xander. and today, he officially becomes a senior.

happy birthday, buddy.
couldn’t have done it without you!
