We welcomed Skyler to our board & train program last Saturday. He came in hot and then showed his real colours, just a scared boy, who lacks confidence, impulse control and has learned to use his teeth in situations.
He likes to pull on leash, he's reactive on leash towards people and dogs. He has used his teeth on people, he will resource guard certain treats. He likes to jump and isn't a fan of going in the bath. We have a lot of stuff we're going to work on, he will be with me for 6 - 8 weeks working on his behaviour modification.
I felt comfortable day 2 taking off his muzzle based off his body language. We just started yesterday to work on place, that is the only obedience I have started with him so far, other than that, we've just been working on the relationship through play & food.
I will begin to add in more structure and obedience soon, but building that relationship is always a must. If the dog can't trust me, we won't get too far. I will also be doing a lot of confidence building exercises with him. He is now fully off gabapentin, I always ask clients to wean the meds before they come, as I want to see the real dog and what I'm actually dealing with. The vet also mentioned behavioural euthanasia, I myself don't believe that is needed at all, and can't wait to see him thrive after the program! Yes, of course there are those rare cases, but I don't believe this is one of them.
I can't wait to see his progress, as I've felt he's done amazing already coming out of his shell!

Totoro went home from his board & train today! I'ts always great when the kids want to learn, love seeing them work the dogs! This was her first time handling him since he's been back, and they both did amazing.
I swear kids listen better when working the dogs, than adults sometimes! She did GREAT, super proud.
