Today, on International Dog Day, I want to take a moment to reflect on all the dogs I’ve had the chance to help over the years, not just Rocket, Bodhi, and Wolfie, but every dog I’ve worked with around the world. From the streets of Mexico to the neighborhoods of Canada, each one has left a mark on my heart.

These dogs have shown incredible resilience and loyalty, and it’s been my privilege to support them through training, rescue, and care. As we celebrate this special day, my commitment grows stronger to continue helping as many dogs as possible—across borders, across cultures, and across all walks of life.

Here’s to the dogs we’ve helped and the many more we’ll continue to support. 🫶🏼

Ever wondered how to get your dog to coexist peacefully with other animals? 🐶🦆 Imagine walking your dog through a park full of geese, and instead of chasing them, your dog calmly walks by. Sounds like a dream, right?

This is what effective dog training looks like—teaching different species to respect each other. It’s about creating harmony and ensuring that your dog is well-behaved and calm, even in the presence of tempting distractions.

In this reel, you’ll see a perfectly trained dog walking calmly near a flock of geese. The geese are relaxed, the dog is content, and there’s no stress involved. This is the result of patience, consistency, and the right training techniques.

Want to achieve this level of training with your dog? Follow along for more tips on how to create a harmonious environment where your dog can thrive. 🐕✨

Have you ever wondered why I don’t use dog treats in my training? 🤔 As a professional dog trainer with nearly 3 decades of experience, I get asked this question a lot.

Here’s the reality: Treat training can lead to some unexpected and unwanted behaviors. I recently received an email from a dog owner sharing their struggles: their dog started stealing objects, growling for personal space, and even stealing food off the counter—all because they used treats to train.

Treats can often create a cycle of bad behavior. Dogs may start doing things like jumping up, begging, or getting into the trash just to earn a treat. It’s a temporary fix that doesn’t address the root of the problem.

In my training approach, we focus on building a strong, respectful bond without the crutch of treats. This method ensures your dog is obedient because they respect you, not because they expect a treat.

You might have seen dogs on my IG and TikTok doing phenomenal things off-leash. This level of training starts with on-leash guidance, using methods like the martingale collar, and setting clear expectations. Each tiny step leads to big success, resulting in a smarter, happier dog.

Curious to learn more about effective dog training without treats? Follow me for more tips and insights! 🐾✨ Your dog will thank you for it!

Are your walks with your dog turning into a tug-of-war? 🚶‍♂️🐕 Here are a few simple tips to make your life a little bit easier and turn those walks into enjoyable experiences for both of you.

When you go for a dog walk, it’s essential to take control. If the road is on your left, keep your dog on your right. Don’t let your dog stop and sniff at every corner or shrub. You are in control of the walk, so maintain your sp*ed and keep moving. Stop only when you feel it’s necessary for your dog to sniff and pick up the “Daily News” or go to the bathroom. 📰🚽

Allowing your dog to drop its head and sniff constantly means you’re giving them control over the walk. Instead, if your dog wants to turn right, you turn left. When you want to stop, make sure your dog sits before you allow them to rest. Always maintain control. 💪🐶

Transform your walks and build a stronger bond with your dog by taking charge. 🐾

Ever wondered if dog parks are beneficial for your dog? 🐕‍🦺 The answer is a resounding YES! 🌟 Dog parks are fantastic for socializing your dog and understanding their natural communication.

A common concern is that dog parks lead to fights. But, more often than not, what you’re witnessing is essential dog communication. Growls, barks, and other sounds are ways dogs teach and learn from each other. For example, Bodie and Rocket love guiding younger dogs, helping them understand boundaries and social cues.

Reactivity often stems from a lack of proper socialization and understanding of dog communication. By allowing your dog to interact with others in a controlled environment, you’re setting them up for success and reducing reactivity.

Comment this post with the word “dog” to get a link and Join me in my upcoming webinar this Thursday June 13th where I’ll dive deeper into the reasons behind dog reactivity and how to manage it without treats. Learn how to create a bond based on mutual respect and understanding. 🐾 Let’s make every walk a peaceful and joyful experience!
