The organization was founded in October 2011. We are now a Registered Canadian Charity and help over 600 cats each year

About Our Programs

Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue (OSCatR) is a non-profit charitable organization (NO. 83641 4573 RR0001) which is dedicated to getting adoptable cats off the streets and into homes in and around the National Capital Region, as well as managing feral cat colonies in this area. Every effort is made to adopt cats into indoor homes through our Adoption Program.

In the course of our work, however, we occasionally encounter feral cats that we are unable to socialize to humans and which are not suitable for adoption into a home. These cats form the basis of many of the community cat colonies which we monitor around the city. Cats in these colonies go through our Trap-Neuter-Release Program (TNR).

Unfortunately some of these community cats need to be relocated from their outdoor homes due to dangerous conditions such as: traffic on a busy road, construction, demolition of their shelter, predators in the area. Once these cats have been rescued and assessed to be unsuitable for an indoor home, they are relocated to carefully monitored outdoor homes through our Feral Cat Relocation Program.

Adopt a Cat: Save a life and make a best friend! Adopt a cat from OSCatR. We have cats and kittens of various ages, colours, sizes and personalities looking for a home.

All cats are behaviorally assessed, veterinary examined, dewormed, given flea prevention, and vaccinated while in care. The adoption fee also covers the cost of spay or neuter surgery, as well as microchip. Check out all the cats available for adoption here on our page or at: www. helpcats.ca

Become a Foster: We are 100% foster-home based. This means that we need people to offer to open up their homes to a cat and help prepare it for adoption. We cover all the veterinary care for the cats while they are being fostered and waiting for an adoptive family. Consider becoming a foster parent and joining the OSCatR Team!

Become a Volunteer: We are always in need of people to help! Whether it is volunteering at a fundraising event, driving cats to their vet appointments or joining our crafting group to create items to sell, there are lots of jobs available at OSCatR.

Donate to OSCatR: Every penny donated goes to getting adoptable cats off the street and into homes, to our TNR program, and to run and manage the rescue. Donations can be made through PayPal ([email protected]). OSCatR also accepts non-monetary donations of items such as: Cat food (dry/wet, all brands, sealed or open bags), Cat litter (clay clumping, clay non-clumping, wheat based, paper pellets), Cleaning/disinfecting products, Large & extra-large dog crates, Humane cat traps, Fabric and other crafting supplies for our fundraising efforts, and Gently used scratching posts.
