EDIT: This sweet girl has found her new home!

We have one kitten remaining out of our last litter (and she'll be the final cat we're placing total). Born on April 19th, 2024, she's a black silver spotted tabby Oriental shorthair. She's super sweet, very cuddly, playful, and over all a pretty perfect Oriental. She's looking for new staff and a house with at least one other cat. If you're interested, please email us at [email protected]

EDIT: Thanks everyone, Krieg has found a home!

Practicalcats Kriegkatze is looking for a retirement home! She's an 18 month old (born February 7, 2023) cinnamon silver spotted tabby girl.

Krieg (who despite her name is not at all warlike) is great with people, cat-savvy dogs, and polite cats. She might be pushed around a little excessively by very very very opinionated cats (like, say, ItsyFlare), so she probably needs a not terribly cat dense home.

She's very pretty but she thinks cat shows are stupid so she'd prefer a home where she can be charming to a smaller audience.

She has two maybe three functional braincells rubbing together and she's extremely sweet if not all that bright. She's spayed, up to date on vaccines, and ready to go home pretty much any time after this weekend.

Would prefer to place her within Ontario or Quebec, but would be willing to consider New York as well (and will be traveling that way this weekend).

Please email [email protected] for more information!

Belated announcement — RW SGC Practicalcats Itsy Flare and CH Katzwijm Challenger have welcomed a decent sized sports team worth of kittens to the world on December 9th.

Mom and babies are doing well — we will be reaching out to those on our waiting list next month but for now enjoy a quick picture of them shortly after they entered the world.

We had such a fun time at the Nauticats show this past weekend, and it was a weekend to remember for a number of reasons.

First, our tiny little floof made his show debut and learned how to cat show. Practicalcats Loyalist Bugle (aka Marching Band) thought that the people, the attention, and the judges were fun and was a charming little guy who had just turned four months old. He got one final, a tenth best all breed, which was more than I expected as he's VERY young yet. :)

Practicalcats Kriegkatze (who I think is now a DGC) went to her second adult show and got two finals (sixth all breed and sixth shorthair) with some fierce competition in the breed with two lovely males that were both substantially more mature than her.

But the stand out of the weekend was Practicalcats Kaiserkatze, our just now nine month old alter. This was his second show as an adult, and he blew me away. He was in every final (15 total!) with a tenth best all breed, an ninth best all breed, an eighth best all breed, two third best all breed, one second best all breed, and a jawdropping NINE BESTs. Nine. Seven in a row on Saturday which caused me to start making ridiculous faces as the day went on. :). He was the best scoring alter in the show, and got the first he needed for his Supreme (and then another one just for fun).

He is a fantastic show cat, and I suspect you'll have the opportunity to see him many more times this year. :)

Enjoy some pictures, videos will come in the comments because Facebook is kind of dumb. :)

EDIT: Lilac boy has found a home!

Lilac is a pretty uncommon colour in Orientals and yet we've made a metric ton of them this fall... and they will almost certainly be our last lilacs! For various life reasons, a bunch of people have had to back out on kittens and we still have two kittens available from our litter with Sienna and Max.

These kittens are ready to go home October 27th and we've got a meetup scheduled already for Grimsby, ON and Ottawa, ON and also Montreal, QC is an option!

This is exactly the sort of litter you want as an Oriental breeder. They are bold enough to explore new places after a little bit of acclimation without trying to immediately throw themselves to their death. They’re social and interactive and demanding as every good Oriental should be, but they’re not as over the top as some. And obviously they’re playful, but not a single one of them has rebounded off a wall yet. They’re not going to march in and take over your lives in the first ten seconds, it’ll probably take them a day or two to settle in, and then they’ll run everything. :)

There's a lilac solid boy who makes excellent faces and a lilac solid girl who is sweet as can be.

01/10/2023

We're going to be placing two more cats in the next little bit (they're ready to be altered, but the surgeries haven't been scheduled yet) and I wanted to post and figure out where they're going to end up sooner rather than later.

First up is CCA GCH Preciouspoint Sienna, a two year old cinnamon solid female Oriental shorthair. She would make a fantastic show alter if someone's looking for that. She is an extremely affectionate girl, very vocal, very bold, but a little bit spicy with other cats and will need a careful introduction and not a super high cat density household. She would like to have another cat friend, just the personalities need to work out well.

That said, if you've got no cats and you want a ready made pair of buddies, perhaps you'd like to take two? :)

Cat #2 is TICA CH Kokiri Maxim of Practicalcats, an 18 month old lilac solid Oriental LONGHAIR. Yeah, he's a fluffy, and he's magnificent. If you've never felt one, they're the softest feeling things on the planet and their single coat doesn't tend to require any more grooming than an Oriental shorthair. He's sweet like candy, super affectionate, and good with other cats and dogs. He's the father of two of our three current litters (including Sienna's. :)) and he's ready to move onto his new life of jumping onto someone else's shoulders and assisting them with all the things.

If you're interested, please email [email protected] with an introduction and tell me a little about your household. We're hoping to place them relatively nearby (particularly Sienna) but we're open to lots of options.

EDIT: Looks like Trick has found a place to land, thanks!

‘I’m an Oriberian short and stout…’

Are you looking for some excitement in your life? Are you bored? I have a solution in the form of one petite cat who is a complete and utter menace to society. Trick is from our outcross litter and is half-Siberian and half-Oriental. (Don’t worry, that bloodline won’t die out, two of her sisters are in breeding homes).

Trick is a fun combo of the two breeds. She’s extremely confident, great with cats and dogs, and was a shockingly great show cat as a household pet kitten. She’s very high energy and loves to climb high (including occasionally up window screens), but she prefers to spend more of her time on the floor than is common for Orientals. She’s a little bit less demanding of human attention than your typical Oriental is, which means that she’s only going to be in your lap say 25 - 50% of the time and doing disasters the rest of the time.

Her perfect home is busy, includes at least one other cat, probably some dogs, and a little bit of chaos that she can help make even more chaotic. Because I like people, she needs at least one other cat in the household or else you’re going to hate yourselves and also her. :). Dogs are a HUGE plus, she thinks they’re super fun! She’d be an absolute rockstar of a household pet to show if you’re interested in dipping your toes into cat shows too!

She’s a pretty small girl (2.8 kg, a little over 6 pounds at 10 months old), spayed and up to date on vaccines, and ready to take over your household whenever!

Please contact me at [email protected] for more details.

EDIT: Zelda has very likely found her home! If anything changes, we'll post again!

First adult up for placement is Zelda! Zelda is an almost two year old blue spotted tabby Oriental shorthair girl, imported from Russia. She's an extremely sweet cat, absolutely ridiculously affectionate, does very well with non-aggressive cats (but can be harassed by more pushy cats), and just wants to be loved and in your lap at all times.

She would very much like to have at least one cat friend to keep her company.

She has two strikes against her however:

1) She says NO DOGS. ABSOLUTELY NO DOGS. FOR REAL SHE DOES NOT WANT TO LIVE WITH DOGS. She doesn't care if your dogs are sweet, wonderful, and polite with cats, she would like to rip their faces off most of the time. If you have dogs, if you will consider having a dog in the next decade, or if you have dogs regularly visit, she is not for you. She's managed okay in our house with our dogs mostly by keeping them separated most of the time, but she did try to eat Murphy at one point.

2) She has a minor health issue that will almost certainly be nearly completely resolved by the time she's ready to go home, and I can discuss with anyone who is truly interested in her.

She'll be ready to go home sometime in October, but I'd like to find a home for her in advance so that she can go live the dog free life she's been dreaming of. There will be a small rehoming fee.

We generally prefer to place adults within about a 6 - 8 hour drive from Barrie, Ontario, Canada, and you likely will need to come here to meet her.

Pictured here with her six month old daughter (Zelda is on the left).

If you're interested, please email [email protected] -- that is the only way that I can respond at this point, so please don't ask in comments, messenger, or anywhere else. Thanks!

It's time to rip the bandaid off and tell the world. Due to a number of reasons, we're going to be cutting back our breeding program significantly with the plan to stop entirely sometime late next year.

Because of that, we'll be closing our wait list and hoping to fulfill all the people that we presently have on the list with the kittens we'll make over the next year. Should we end up with unplaced kittens, we'll post them here. :)

We'll also be placing a few adult cats over the next few months, and will post each of them separately.

It's been an honour and a pleasure to be a part of your lives for the past decade, and although we're sad about the decision, we're certain it's the right one.

We won't be stopping showing and will return to our roots on the alter circuit. :)

Rules are meant to be broken! We usually do one letter per litter and have gotten around to our second L, but this time, we're doing it a little differently.

Sienna's lilacs born on June 24th are going to be the (2) Lilac litter, because Echidna's kittens were born this morning, July 4th. I was hoping she'd have Canada Day kittens like we did six years ago, but she wanted a different holiday apparently.

So this litter will be the (2) Loyalist litter, because of the date and the country we live in. :). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loyalist_(American_Revolution)

Mom and babies are doing well!

Loyalists were colonists in the Thirteen Colonies who remained loyal to the British Crown during the American Revolutionary War, often referred to as Tories, Royalists or King's Men at the time. They were opposed by the Patriots, who supported the revolution, and called them "persons inimical to the...

Would you like a cat who ISN'T a kitten? We have two ready (or almost ready) to go!

Faeryfire Pan (on the left) is a chocolate spotted tabby and white boy who is absolutely all the good and bad things about Orientals. He's into everything, he loves with the intensity of ten thousand suns, he wants to be involved in every single thing you do. He's gotten along great with all cats with a proper introduction and is relatively tolerant of dogs (though he doesn't love them immensely). For the sake of your sanity, he definitely needs to go to a home with at least one other young, active cat to keep him entertained. He's neutered and ready to head off to new adventures!

Practicalcats Socks (right) is from our F litter, from Silvan YouTube of Practicalcats and Practicalcats Bombalurina. She was spayed a few days ago and isn't quite ready to head out yet, but will be soon. She's a sassy, delightful, into everything sort of cat as well, but is definitely more pushy with other cats than her buddy Pan. She's grown up with dogs and thinks they're fine enough, and she's been good with other cats and will be even more so now those pesky hormones are out of the way. She's also like to live with a cat friend to keep her company.

We're looking for homes within driving distance (say 4 hours or so) of Barrie, Ontario, but don't let distance be the limiting factor if you're certain you're an amazing home.

Please email us at [email protected] with an introduction! As with most adult cats, we want to find them the best homes, so it definitely isn't first come first served. :)

They can also go together if you're looking for a Brand New House Full of Fun(tm). :)

Angry dragon mother has calmed down quite a bit. 🙂

We have three more litters due between now and mid July so expect literally everything to be slower as we are up to our eyeballs in babies.

25/06/2023

Sienna, angry dragon mother who growls at me for disturbing her precious horde of mostly lilac things, has welcomed to the world the 2L litter yesterday.

I predict there will be no pictures for a while because she's taking this motherhood thing very seriously, but mom and kittens are doing well.

For those on the kitten wait list, I really hope you enjoy lilac. :)

ETA: Parents are (CCA) GCH Preciouspoint Sienna of Practicalcats and (TICA) CH Kokiri Maxim of Practicalcats. :)

The emailing half of the cattery had to make an unexpected trip without email access and is shockingly behind on email replies. She's going to try to catch up (it's so weird to talk about yourself in third person) but we're going to be at a show this weekend with our new ridiculously cute new boy kitten.

If you're in the Niagara region, come and visit us this weekend! After this, our next show will be July 15th and 16th in Wooster, Ohio. :)

In honour of Flare's eighth birthday (today!), and because I did promise, the explanation of why there is a decorated box that says 'Caution Flare!' constantly on our kitchen island.

We were converts to online shopping long before COVID, and we've had cats for a while now, so it was pretty common that we'd get a good box and put it on the counter for the cats to enjoy, and then throw out when it was too gross or chewed on, and get another one. Flare has always been one of the heaviest users of the box, though of course all the cats go in and out.

One day, we got a new box that said 'CAUTION HEAVY' on the side, and Alex scratched out heavy and wrote Flare instead.

And that created a trend that has gotten more and more elaborate, as all the kitchen boxes now need to say 'Caution Flare' in some decorative way... and Flare's new nickname is now Caution.

Happy eighth birthday, Flare!
