November is Pet Diabetes Awareness Month!

Diabetes is a life long manageable disease. With proper veterinary care, diet and often insulin treatments, a pet diagnosed with diabetes can still live a happy healthy life.

Happy Practice Manager Week to our very own Alisa!!

Alisa came to Graydon Vet in December of 2015 as one of our receptionists.
She quickly became a vital part of our team, with her welcoming smile and personality.

In no time at all, she began to take on more responsibilities and found ways for us to be more efficient as a team. She continued to take on more managerial tasks while at the same time attended the CVPM program to become a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager!

These days she’s not often one of the first faces you see when you walk into our doors but know that she is working hard in the background keeping things running smoothly and cracking jokes while also keeping us in line. 😛

Help us in wishing Alisa a Happy Practice Managers Week and acknowledging all her hard work! We really couldn’t do what we do without her!

Smokey is a 3.5 year old grey Male Neutered cat from Vita, MB
He is tattooed and his owner misses him very much!

VITA AREA
This dog was found near Gardenton and we are hoping to find her owners! She was sighted yesterday, but today was still around and is very hungry!
She does have a collar, but no tattoo.

Here is your final Heartworm and Tick prevention reminder!

If you travel with your pets over winter talk to your veterinarian as they may benefit from year-long prevention!

Ticks are still out and about and will continue to be until constant temperatures of about -4°C. If ticks find a cozy area like a barn, they can still be found through the winter!

Halloween is almost here! Let’s go over some tips to keep your furry friends safe!!

- Pet costumes are SO cute! But please don’t leave your pets unattended with them on.

- If you live somewhere that gets lots of trick or treaters, your door will likely be open tons of times.
Make sure your pets have their collars with identification on if they’re there to enjoy the festivities!

- If your pet gets very stressed with doorbells, knocking or visitors, it may be in their best interest to be in a separate room with a sound machine and a food puzzle to keep them distracted.
In some cases some pets may need medication to help relax.

- Keep any candies or chocolates off the floor and out of reach.
Make sure your pets are separated if this can’t be avoided.

- Walk your pets before the festivities. Sometimes it’s stressful for pets when there’s crowds of people and excited kids running from house to house. This may also help tire them out and help relax them for the evening.

What is an RVT and what can they do?

An RVT is a Registered Veterinary Technologist. This means that they have taken and passed an accredited program (usually 2 years of schooling), they have written and passed a national exam and they are registered with their appropriate associations.

RVTs are skilled in many aspects of veterinary medicine and able to do many things veterinarians can do, except for diagnosing, prescribing medication and surgeries.
RVTs play an important role at the clinic, often in the background doing tasks such as prepping patients for surgeries, monitoring patients under general anesthesia, dental cleanings, radiographs, lab work, treatments for hospitalized patients and so much more!

We will show you some of their skills in action this month!
