Yesterday we lost a longtime member of the DSDW pack, Carly.

Carly joined the pack about eleven years ago, and was still hiking up to this past Wednesday. She was deaf as a doorknob, but always had a blast with her friends ripping around the forest.

Carly's "sister" Sally retired last year, but Carly was still going strong until last week, when she was struck down by a tumour on her spleen. It's the end of an era... Carly's siblings, Sally and the late Molly, joined the pack way way back in February 2013., and Carly not longer after.

Godsp*ed, Carly. Our hearts go out to your family 💔

Finn, 2011-2025 💔

Sweet Finn and his sister Raine joined the pack way way back in 2012. Auntie Erin bumped into their Mom hiking in the back woods of Thetis, and the Goldens joined the pack shortly thereafter. Raine passed in 2020, and Finn just yesterday.

Finn & Raine embodied everything a Golden should be. They were sweet, patient, biddable, and ate everything in sight. They helped raise baby Gordon into a well-rounded young lad.

You'll be missed, Finn. We look forward to having your younger "brother" Tavish join the pack soon. He's got big shoes to fill.

Another day, a village mobilized, and a crisis averted

We’re not *just* dog walkers. We are advocates for your dog’s mental and physical health.

For instance, today I noticed my Willis straining to p*e. Also nicknamed “The Lemon”, health issues are no stranger to Willis, but he’s never had a UTI. Knowing firsthand how painful UTIs can be, he needed to see the vet STAT. In swept Auntie Dee, AKA Onyx, Gypsy & Jigsaw’s Mom, who graciously offered to squire wee Willis to the vet. Dr. Auntie Erin’s preliminary diagnosis confirmed.

Or last spring, when Charlotte noticed Addie was very much not herself on the group hike. Addie was lethargic, clingy and not at all normal. Addie’s Mom searched the house and discovered that Addie had gotten into her allergy medication, and essentially overdosed. Addie spent a few days at emerg, and was back to normal in no time. The quantity of Apoquel Addie consumed could have been fatal if not treated.

We are continuously monitoring your dog while they’re out with us. It’s our job 😊

We’ve added a hike tomorrow if anybody would like a spot!

Rhoda had a great time at Pooch Pool School’s Regionals qualifier this weekend. We already secured our Regionals invite by winning our division last year, but she scored a new personal best of 21’3”. What a firecracker! We’ve got room Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this coming week!

Rhoda wanted to share how her weekend went. This was her first agility trial, and her first Q (qualifying run). So proud of this speedy little spitfire! In this particular class, I have to stay behind the orange tape while I send her to a series on obstacles on her own. NAILED IT. We are full tomorrow but have room the rest of the week!
