This is Galahad , he is 41 this year . He eats special meals 6 times a day . He's strong and healthy and not skinny . While it does not happen often that a horse lives until their 40's , horses can live quite old .
Sadly we see starved horses in their late teens and early twenties all the time .The excuse ; "They are old " The truth is unless they are sick there is no reason for an old horse to be skinny . It's lack of care and not being fed enough .If your horse is skinny make sure to have a vet check their teeth , give them a probiotic to help with gastrointestinal health , proper parasite control ,supplements to boost their immunity , companionship, adequate space to freely walk and exercise them selves and medication to deal with any pain .
The majority of horses have had to work hard for humans most of their lives , the least that is owed to them is proper care .
