It's K9 Marshal's 3rd anniversary at Edmonton Fire Rescue Services! 🥳🐾🚒

K9 Marshal was raised and trained by our team here at Alberta K9, and works with EFRS Fire Investigators as an Ignitable Liquid Detection K9 - helping to determine the cause of fires.

Fun facts about K9 Marshal:

1. Marshal's litter was "fire-themed", and his registered name is "Alberta K9's Fire Marshal". It was a complete coincidence that he grew up and went to work for a fire service!

2. Marshal's littermate brother, K9 "Torch", is an explosives detection K9 with the National Guard of Ukraine Національна гвардія України

3. Marshal's Dad, K9 "Arson", is a drug-detection K9 and has travelled across North America to places like the Golden Gate Bridge, Mount Rushmore, Times Square, Churchill Downs, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and more!

4. Marshal's grandfather, K9 "Dax", served as a Police K9 in Missouri.

Poppy is a sweet and adorable 1.5 year-old purebred English Cocker Spaniel. She is very quiet (our team has never heard her bark!), crate & kennel trained, and she absolutely loves her people - as well as other dogs! While she’s quite energetic, she is very respectful of everyone’s space. Poppy has been spayed, and her price is $1800.

We appreciate serious inquiries from suitable forever homes. Working cocker spaniels are high energy. Please take this into consideration.

This morning he did one of his last drug searches at the Edmonton International Airport for our industry client. 🛩️

Arson has had an amazing career, and it’s time for him to fully enjoy his retirement with us - we hope for many more years!

Our Search & Rescue K9 team was recently deployed to Northern Alberta to assist the Lubicon Lake Band in locating a person who had been missing for almost 6 days. Undeterred by the challenging terrain, SAR K9 Remi was able to locate the individual, deceased.

Our thoughts are with their family & friends - as well as the Little Buffalo community, who came together to conduct a large-scale search of the area. Despite the tragic outcome, our team takes comfort in knowing that we were able to help bring some level of closure to the family and community. ❤️

Happy Face😎, Serious Face 🤔

It's been almost a year since K9 Tigger joined our family here at Alberta K9, after he was found abandoned in a local parking lot and turned in to our friends at Alberta Animal Services.

In March 2023, we lost K9 Nero, our beloved Dutch Shepherd (and hard-working drug detection canine) at age 11 after a brief battle with bone cancer. Our team was heartbroken without our resident "Dutchie" around..... 🥺

But then Tigg came along to ease the pain - and he fits in perfectly around here! ❤

They've rented the ENTIRE West Edmonton Mall Waterpark on April 13, 2024 from 6:30-9:30pm for a fundraiser! 🤯🌊

But they need your help.....

There's currently 71 tickets left to sell to make this a huge success. Tickets are $40 each - with proceeds going to support FFAU's amazing work in Ukraine (including travel and protection equipment for - and future Public Safety K9s!)

Our team certainly worked with some unique detection training aids during our recent trip to Ukraine - including live gr***des and RPGs 💣

This allowed us to create realistic training scenarios for K9 Torch and his new handler - and Torch didn't skip a beat!

We also had the opportunity to visit the Demining Team at the State Emergency Services (ДСНС України) to learn about the explosive devices that they encounter and diffuse on a daily basis.

Back in Canada, we train our detection canines using a combination of live explosives (we're licensed through the Government of Canada for this) in conjunction with top-quality ScentLogix Scent Reference Material.

These materials, combined with our training programs, produce mission-ready canines 💪🐾

Our team’s trip to Europe earlier this month first placed us in Krakow, Poland 🇵🇱 ✈️

The Polish State Fire Service had assisted our friends at Firefighter Aid Ukraine with receiving some medical training equipment needed for the Ukraine trip - and we were promptly invited in for a tour of the fire station, and learnt about the service’s search & rescue canine teams.

The warm welcome and hospitality that we received was a fitting introduction to Eastern Europe 🇪🇺

Members of our team recently returned from beautiful Chernivtsi, Ukraine, where we presented K9 Torch to the Chernivtsi Regional Administration.

K9 Torch is our gift to the people of Ukraine - who are enduring an unfathomable attack on their freedom, culture, and sovereign land. The hospitality and humanity that our team experienced during our trip - from our hosts as well as the Ukrainian public - is something that we encourage everyone to travel to Ukraine and experience. Our support for Ukraine on both personal and organizational levels shall be unwavering. 💛💙

K9 Torch has transitioned to his new handler with the National Guard of Ukraine, where he will protect Ukrainians as a Public Safety K9 specializing in explosives detection. Torch and his handler are a perfect fit for each other, and we are confident that through their new bond they will keep each other safe.

We will continue to share our skills and expertise with public safety agencies in the Chernivtsi Oblast (region) through training missions and additional canines in the near future.

We'll share additional photos and words about our trip over the next few weeks.

Thank you to Firefighter Aid Ukraine, Airlink, the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, Modern K9 - Calgary, Modern K9 - Edmonton, and the many private donors who covered the costs of travel and equipment for K9 Torch - as well as assisted our team with logistics and translation.

K9 Torch is all geared up for his deployment to thanks to our friends at Firefighter Aid Ukraine who collected generous donations from the Canada-Ukraine Foundation and private donors, to cover the cost of an Elite K-9, Inc. ballistic protection vest, eye protection, and ear protection to keep K9 Torch safe.

K9 Torch is a Belgian Malinois, trained to detect explosives and protect the public. We are proud to be donating him to the За відродження Національної Гвардії України (National Guard of Ukraine) in support of public safety in Ukraine. 🇨🇦🇺🇦
