Do you give your dog enrichment toys?? They are a great way to add enrichment to your dog’s day, getting them to use their brains, and problem solve independently. Having a few different enrichment toys that you rotate through is a great way to keep it interesting! You can even make your own DIY toys. Hand feeding is a great opportunity to practice obedience and tricks and learn new ones. Daily training sessions provide wonderful mental stimulation for your dog. Bug loves his new 🧁!

Engagement from your dog is KEY in building a strong bond and is a pivotal part of training. Rewarding your dog with a treat when they give you eye contact while out on a walk is a simple and effective way to encourage engagement. With some consistency, your dog will start to give you more eye contact and check in more regularly. Have you tried this with your dog??

It’s pretty cool that dogs have evolved over thousands of years to communicate with us humans. Learning to pay attention to a dog’s body language, cues and vocalizations is vital in understanding what they are trying to tell us. If we can better understand what our dogs need and want, we can give them fulfilling lives and have improved relationships. What is your dog telling you today??

One of my favourite activities to incorporate into training is a game of fetch at the beginning of a session.
🦴Fetch is an amazing form of exercise for dogs as they run in short bursts at their own pace. This is an ideal running style for dogs that is kind to their joints.
🦴Exercise is a crucial component to training.
🦴Getting in some exercise at the beginning of a training session helps dogs with focus and listening. Once they have run around for a bit, they are more engaged with the training.
🦴It adds some fun to the session and helps me bond with the dogs through a fun activity! #northshoredogwalkers #maddysmutts #positivereinforcement #dogtraining #happydogs
Maddy there 👋🏼 just popping on to tell you a little bit about how I work with North Shore Dog Walkers to rehab dogs back into group walks if they have to take a break. It’s one of the many reasons I love working as a dog trainer with North Shore Dog Walkers as I get to work with dogs when they develop issues in group walks and try and get them back in. Being a walker twice a week with North Shore not only allows me to stay in the loop and maintain my bond with the dogs, but also allows me to slowly integrate the dogs back into group walks at a pace that works for them.
Thanks for following along on the journey and see you next time 🐕🐩🦮 #northshoredogwalkers #maddysmutts #positivereinforcement #dogtraining #happydogs
Hi, and welcome to the first of the Meet a mutt series! Meet Bug a.k.a. Bugsby for formal occasions. This little prince is now my fur baby, but let me give you the full story.
Bug is a 3 year old miniature pincher from California and was bred and raised to be a show dog and lived in a kennel with 10 or so other dogs. When he came to me, he did not know any commands, know how to be a pet or rely on a human. He grew up with the sole purpose to look pretty and prance around. And I would say he’s nailed that.
Bug came home with me at the end of July in a foster to adopt situation. After a couple months and I officially adopted him and he has now been with me for just over six months..
We have worked through many issues that have come up, including demand barking, separation anxiety, accidents in the house, confidence with new people, leash reactivity, learning recall, and all of the basic obedience.
He has finally started to fully relax into into his space and trust me. He now walks reliable off leash, has learned to go potty outside, can be left alone, and is learning impulse control. We still have a long way to go, but I am so proud of Bug, and he, just like every other special puppy out there needs all the love in the world. Sending love from me and my pup to you and yours. 💕🐾💕🐾💕 #dogtraining #rescuedog #positivereinforcement #miniaturepinscher #dogsofnorthvan #maddysmutts
