Finished up a few loose ends on this fantastic course I took last year! Improving and developing my consulting skills is of huge importance to me and this course did just that!
Echo taking her skills on the road!
Self control and the ability to regulate emotions comes easier to some dogs than others. One way we can grow these skills in our dogs is to teach them a variety of skills that involve stillness and calmness and teach them that those skills lead to the exciting things they love to do.
These two were total rockstars yesterday! Our training session in the busy shopping area involved lots of people and dogs as a distraction. Often when I am training the dogs out in public people will stop to chat. I love teaching dogs to offer a down and hold a stay in these contexts!
What behaviour is important to you when out in public with your dogs?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Day 2 with Angus involved going new places and settling around new dogs and people. Angus is learning what behaviours give him access to people and learning to focus around his friends.
Angus is visiting and learning over the next couple weeks! He is the perfect little house guest and is already having so much fun! Day one involved meeting new friends, both canine and human, a pet friendly patio, and off leash exercise.
Drop in Basic Manners classes are continuing until the end of October! I have a couple spaces left in each week including tonight at 6pm. Send me a message if you would like to join!

This class covers a life skills and basic manners such as; coming when called, settling around distractions, focusing around other dogs, loose leash walking and more! ⭐️Out n’ About Drop In Classes⭐️
These drop in classes will be held at various locations around south Calgary and will be geared towards teams who would like to put there skills to the test around higher distractions. If your dog has great skills but lacks focus around people, dogs, or in new environments, these classes will be great for you!
Individual classes are $40 plus gst or purchase a package of 5 classes for $180 plus gst.

Monday visited Lowe’s for a socialization outing on Thursday! He watched lots of people, greeted two people and took in lots of sights and sounds. We spent about 20 min in the store and he even showed off a few skills!
A big welcome to Monday! He is hanging out with us this week learning all the things!

This boy made some big strides! One of our big projects was getting him to happily load into the car. Oscar doesn’t have to make many trips off the property but his fabulous people wanted to make it a comfortable experience for him when he did. On our first session, we opened the car and Oscar left the area. Up until now loading in the car had been a struggle. On our fourth session, Oscar easily loaded into the vehicle waiting for his favourite treat (ham 😋) to appear. We used some creativity, teaching him the different skills he would need. Teaching him to jump onto other objects, jumping on the atv, and broke this big task into pieces. The first instalment of #adventureswithecho! Echo was not sure what to make of the river. She was curious but cautious. Echo is such a cool girl. She wanted to stay until she had made up her mind about it and then we moved on to another area of the bank. She very carefully dipped her front feet in, continuing to investigate with that big nose of hers and slowly her back feet went in as well. Well I think it’s safe to say she is a fan of the river now! Even after she scared herself on her first swimming attempt she went back in to rescue her stick. Betty and I popped in to Petsmart today for some training and exposure. Anytime I enter a new environment I always pick our strongest behaviours to work on. I’m also prepared to relax my criteria. Betty quickly remembered her ‘bed’ behaviour and it was a great confidence builder in an environment with all sorts of new distractions. #calgarydogtraining #dogtrainersofinstagram #positivereinforcement
