Such a great reminder from Trick Woofs Go give them a follow if you don't already!

Behaviour is only labelled good or bad because it’s what we have perceived it to be. To our dogs, behaviour is is explored or repeated simply because it is reinforcing in some way.
When we start to think of behaviour just as meeting a need. We can start to change our response to it and work on our own reactions.
And of course tell Santa all dogs are on the good list.

🎉 Happy 8th Birthday, Charlie! 🎉

Eight years ago, Charlie came into our lives as a tiny 8-week-old puppy, just as I was starting my journey as a dog trainer. At just 10 weeks old, he joined his first puppy class, and from the very beginning, we learned and grew together.

When Charlie was 6 months old, he had his first seizure. That moment began a roller-coaster journey of more seizures, cluster seizures, medication adjustments, and learning how to manage his triggers—primarily stress. These days, his stress is managed with daily trazodone, but as he gets older, his anxiety continues to grow. It's important to make adjustments as needed.

Despite it all, Charlie is an incredible dog. His social skills are truly unmatched—something you can't teach but can only admire. Over the years, he's worked alongside countless reactive dogs, helping them in ways only he could, even forming friendships with some.

We never thought Charlie would make it to his first birthday, and now here we are, celebrating 8 amazing, fun filled years. We feel so lucky to have him in our lives.

Happy Birthday, Charlie! 💕

Lest We Forget

Today, we pause to honor the brave men, women, and animals who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. As we go about our day, let's take a moment to remember the courage, strength, and resilience of those who served and continue to serve.

Whether you're taking a quiet moment of reflection, attending a ceremony, or wearing a poppy, let's come together to ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Thank you for your service. ❤️

🎉 Congratulations to our recent Life Skills grads – Poe, Skye, and Pato! 🎉

We are beyond proud of these teams and the incredible progress they made over just 5 weeks! Adolescence can be challenging, but these dedicated pups (and their amazing pawrents!) showed resilience, patience, and teamwork. By pushing through the tough moments, they’re building a strong foundation and solidifying expectations that will set them up for success.

Great job to everyone for their hard work, and cheers to more positive strides ahead! 🐾💪

We couldn't agree more with Dogs First reminder: If your dog is off-leash and friendly but rushes up to other dogs or people and can’t immediately recall from any situation, they simply shouldn’t be off-leash. Using dedicated off-leash spaces is essential for the safety and comfort of everyone. It’s disappointing to see so many disregarding these bylaws—including some professionals who should be advocating for responsible dog guardianship.

Let's set the example by respecting others' space and keeping all dogs safe!

WHAT MAKES YOU SEE THE RED MIST WITH OTHER DOG OWNERS?
It's bad to hold the rage in, my therapist tells me (actually read it in a meme...I refuse to go to therapy, it's everyone else, not me).

So I'm learning to let it out. I let some of it out this morning. Just a little valve release, like the way you slowly open that bottle of fizz that has been recently shaken, just let a little out, cuz you don't want it to explode uncontrollably. That's what I did this morning.

More than dog s**t on a path, more than people that will happily just there in a public place with a very, very yappy dog, like everyone should be enjoying little pookums' incessant vocalisations, more than anything else, the thing that riles me the most about other dog owners is out of control dogs followed by the obligatory owner with a stupid smiling face explaining to me or my scared child that their dog is actually really friendly.

Red. Mist.

He might be friendly, but I'm not.

Right at this moment I'm having visions of beating you to death with this sausage roll and leaving you there on the beach for the birds. And everyone watching would cheer and clap and hi-five me as I walk away.

I mean, imagine having a big, s**t, boisterous kid with no manners that was jumping all over everyone in the playground or park or beach or supermarket. Is that OK?! No. He'll eventually jump on the wrong person and get, at best, a firm telling-off.

It wasn't my kid today but my dog. He has a bad back. He reacts if people jump on him, strangely. And if he does, he's the bad boy. So now I get a little uneasy when a boisterous dog comes tearing up to us, putting him further on edge, increasing his reactivity. Round and round we go.

If you were the owner of that lovely young boxer this morning and happen to be reading this know that I, and everyone else on the beach, hate you. You are making dog owners look bad.

Here's an idea: until your dog can behave accordingly, learning how to properly greet other dogs he doesn't know - which is calmy, from the front, allowing both dogs to sniff and sus the other out - getting your dog under control?! Put him on a long lead. He can still have a lovely day in the park or beach but he won't frighten or potentially harm anyone else while doing it.

If you're unsure how to teach him the necessary dog etiquette, that's what dog trainers are for. €100 for a lifetime of people not hating you in the morning. Total bargain.

Such a rewarding 2-on-1 session with Bianca and her dog Daisy, alongside client dog Andre and his mom! Despite the busy environment, both dogs stayed calm and connected, even hanging out together at the end. Love seeing them hit it off and build confidence around each other at their own pace. Great job, team! 🐾

Our Journey

Bianca is the owner of and head trainer for Magnolia Dog Training. Her training journey began, as many do, by rescuing her own reactive dog. She hired a trainer that specializes in reactivity and aggression for help. As they began working together, she became interested in the science behind how dogs learn and the positive, force-free ways to help with various behavioural issues. Within a month, she began joining this trainer on the weekends for private lessons and going to as many group classes possible to gain more knowledge. She mentored under this trainer for about a year and a half, the main focus being on aggression/reactivity. In that time, she worked hands on with clients, starting with walks, walk and trains, assisting in group classes including a reactive dog class, private puppy session and moving more into dog-dog aggression and some dog-human aggression. She has completed the Karen Pryor Academy’s Dog Trainer Foundations course, Walks & Wags Pet First Aid Certification, on-line courses and seminars and also received her biggest achievement so far, her certification through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. Continuing education is key and Bianca regularly attends seminars, workshops and events, as well as takes on-line courses and participates in webinars. She hopes to enroll in the Karen Pryor Academy’s Dog Trainer Professional program soon. We look forward to helping and guiding you with your training journey!
