I was a bundle of nerves before we made our announcement last week. I wasn't sure how people would respond, but our has reminded me once again how amazing you all are.

When working with our partners at Four Roots pet products, there were 3 top priorities when formulating the Four Roots Fruit & Vegetable blends

1️⃣ Single Sourced Protein - Beef is beef. Chicken is chicken. Turkey is turkey. We know how important it is to you to have options that don't mix and match proteins and organs. These blends are ideal for dogs with severe allergies or intolerances who require a limited ingredient diet.

2️⃣ Fiber but not filler. We chose fruits and vegetables based on their nutritional benefits, not as as way to add bulk to the recipe. We are not here to reduce the quality protein content for your dogs.

3️⃣ Only Canadian meat products from inspected facilities.

We lead with our values and what we know creates a nutritious blend for your pups.

Committing to that does create some difficulties sourcing and producing. But that's the reality when setting high standards for ourselves and our products. What is easy is not always the best. What is hard is usually worth working towards.

We want to share an important update with our . Starting October 1, 2025, Grand Dog Essentials will no longer distribute Dog’s Choice raw pet food.

This is a big and scary change for us, but we feel it is necessary to remain to true our commitment to quality, transparency, and balanced nutrition.

We know many of you have relied on Dog’s Choice for years, and change can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’ve prepared a transition guide with recommended alternatives. We are here to offer one-on-one support to help you update your rotation and find the best fit for your dog.

Dog’s Choice will remain available only while supplies last. To ensure fairness, we’ve placed a two-box limit per customer.

Thanks to everyone for your support through the years and onward. We appreciate you all.

We have a big announcement coming tomorrow so I am posting our delivery info for October a day early!

Delivery and In-Person Pick Up Information you need to know for October ⬇️ ⬇️

1️⃣ Our weekly order cut off is every Monday at noon for delivery the same week.

2️⃣ There are three in person pick-up / shop dates this month! The first one being this Saturday October 4 from 9 am - 12 pm. The other dates are:

Saturday October 11 from 9 - 12 pm (with ) - PRE PAID PICK UP ONLY - I will not be at the shop this weekend (we will be on our annual Thanksgiving camping trip, so Christine will be there to handle prepaid pick ups only)

Saturday October 25 from 9 - 12 pm

3️⃣ Our new monthly delivery dates continue their rotation! See graphic for the locations included in each zone.

Zone 2: October 1 & 29
Zone 3: October 8
Zone 4: October 15
Zone 1: October 22

If you visit our partner store, , you may have the pleasure of meeting Timber (last photo). He is the goodest boy, but you might be surprised to hear that he wasn't the inspiration for Timber Turkey. Though he can be a turkey sometimes. 😉 ⬇️

When naming the new Four Roots blends, we were looking for names that are easy to remember and connect us to nature and our roots in Alberta.

✨ Timber Turkey represents the abundance of trees in Alberta.

✨ The strong roots we have in this province.

✨ Honouring the biological roots of our pets by offering them food that supports them.

When we feed our pets a diet that they are meant to eat, their bodies thrive and function the way it's intended.

It's an added bonus that our beloved Timber will always be connected to the start of Four Roots with his name featured in one of our blends. ❤️

Let me tell you, picking a name for raw pet food is no easy task! The first step is to remember that you need to pick a name! 😂

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that throughout the hustle and bustle of getting things ready for the Four Roots product launch, we (ok, me, I can only speak for myself) totally forgot about naming our products until Hauke asked what they should be.

There was much debate. We wanted something simple so people can remember them but also something to set ourselves apart from the rest. We would think of an idea and then realize that it was the same or close to other options out there.

Who knew it could be so hard!?

When we were throwing out ideas, we landed on these notes for inspiration:

- something to connect to our home Province: Alberta
- simple
- alliterations to help stick out in people's brains
- a name to invoke feelings of being in and connected to nature

Bow Beef is inspired by the Bow River in Alberta. The Bow River starts in the rockies near Banff and flows through to the foothills and prairies. We all know it and I'm sure we all have some great memories to recall that includes Bow River.

A simple but strong name and makes you think of spending time in nature at a campground or walking along the river. Bow Beef checks all the boxes - would you agree?

This week had a first for our family/Grand Dog team!

Matt took our little person out to experience life on the road as a delivery driver.

With two parents running the same business, everyday is take your daughter to work day. Especially during summer vacation. 😂 But this was a new experience for her!

She made sure to go to sleep early the night before so she was ready to leave in the morning with dad. 😊🥰 When I came home from the gym, they were eating their breakfast, fuelling up for the day!

She was excited for a new adventure with her dad and to be part of the Grand Dog crew. While Dad did the heavy lifting, she made sure you got your delivery notifications and confirmation picture!

They celebrated with lunch once their route was complete.

Matt didn't document the experience (no surprise there 😝), so I don't have pictures. Instead you have these great pictures and videos from for capturing delivery day last week for their !

Raw food - best for your best friend

We sell and distribute Dog’s Choice raw food, made with love and care in central Alberta. We have fed our own purebred German Shepherd this food since she was weaned eight years ago, and she is a happy, healthy pooch with a glorious coat. There are multiple varieties of food available in one or two pound tubes. You can choose from beef, chicken, and meat and veggie mix.

Greg is the Top Dog at Grand Dog Essentials and he loves dogs, especially ours. In fact, some days I think he loves that dog more than me! He will talk about raw dog food to anyone who will listen and has influenced so many of our family and friends to feed raw, we figured we might as well go into the business and make a living at it.

We know there are detractors of the raw food diet for dogs. However, our experience has been very good. We have an extremely healthy dog, free of digestive issues, and free of that awful thing called doggie breath. Watch our feed for future blogs on the raw food diet.

Some people think it will be horribly expensive. Well, if you buy the precious little packages at the store it will be expensive. Our food is reasonably priced and you can feed your medium to large dog for a similar cost to the top grade kibble food. Plus our pooch has gas so seldom that if a fart escapes her, she is so surprised she gets up to investigate.
