The hardest part of the process is catching your dog in the act of 💩 while also having the time take the sample. 😩 Not necessarily the easiest task.
Go over all the pamphlets when you first get your kit. Familiarize yourself with the process and create your dog's profile online right away so when it's time to take the sample you are prepared.
You will need approximately 20 - 30 minutes to take the sample and complete the steps to get it ready for mailing.
NOTE: If you are giving your dog probiotics, stop 24 hours before testing. Once you have taken the sample, you can resume probiotics. it's time to take the sample you are prepared.
The Steps:
Collect: The gut health test kit includes everything you’ll need to collect a small sample of your dog’s stool, including detailed instructions.
Register: Create an account at at the website provided in the package. Complete your dog’s profile.
Send: The kit includes a pre-addressed mailer to send back your sample. I've had no problems shipping via Canada Post. I've also heard that Purolator works as well. (Shipping costs are extra)
Analysis: Using the latest scientific innovations and techniques, AnimalBiome’s scientists identify the types and proportions of the bacteria found in your dog’s sample and prepare your dog’s unique report.
Results: In 2-3 weeks (from when they receive your sample), you will receive an email notification when your test results are ready.
Once your results are complete, they will email them to you. You will then have the opportunity to set up a 15 minute complimentary consultation with a microbiome test expert.

The barcode on their boxes track the batches that they make and is an important part of the HACCP process that their facility is certified under.
The CK9 products come from a facility that is HACCP certified. In order for them to comply, they need to track their products. As a certified facility, they perform regular testing and inspections on all of their products and equipment.
HAACP stands for: Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points. It was developed by NASA and food safety specialists in the 1960's.
The HAACP certification places a priority on food safety, quality, traceability, and accountability.

Give your Dog a Bone is an older book; published in 1993. It was the first raw feeding book I read, so it holds a special place in my heart!
It has lots of interesting information, but it's not as easy as a read as the other two books.
It's interesting to see how things have changed (or not changed) over the years since raw feeding has exploded in popularity.
Feeding Dogs and The Forever Dog are both information dense backed with science and research.
IMO, The Forever Dog is the easiest and most digestable read of the three. I love how they break down raw feeding to make it easy for people.

We love mushrooms for our dogs, but only ones on the safe list! Take it from me, who recently had to take their dogs to the (AFTER HOURS) vet....
Doozer got into some mushrooms recently in Nordegg. And zero fun was had by all in the events that occurred afterwards.
The symptoms came on suddenly. First we noticed severe diarrhea, like squirting out liquid. Then he vomited a lot and we could see some of the mushrooms in the vomit. Once the vomiting started, so did the excessive drooling. Non-stop drooling.
Those were the most obvious signs for us. Symptoms and severity can depend on what mushrooms are eaten and how much. Other signs can include:
Teary
Weakness
Ataxia (walking like they're drunk)
Lethargy
Jaundice (yellowing skin or eyes)
Abdominal pain
We went straight to the vet. If you find yourself in this situation, try to locate the mushrooms and take a picture of them to share. This will help the vets in identifying the ingested mushrooms.
In our case, they tested his kidney levels and they came back fine. By the time we got to them, Doozer had already vomited 3 times so it was safe to say he got a lot of them out. The drooling and vomiting had subsided so they gave me charcoal for the next 24 hours to draw out any other toxins
We have been watching Doozer over the past couple of weeks for any other neurological or physical symptoms, but he seems to be back to his normal self!
