At the beginning of December, the provincial government introduced the PUPS Act to crack down on puppy mills in Ontario. Unfortunately, the progress seems to have stalled.

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society has been pushing the government to pass the legislation immediately, and we have sent them a detailed list of what we want to see included in the regulations. We don’t want to see this process dragged out for months or years when the need to shut down puppy mills in Ontario is so important.

That’s why the government needs to hear from people like you, who support the PUPS Act and want to see it passed urgently. Change for animals begins with you. This is where the money goes when you buy raffle tickets. Big Dan is enjoying a Kuranda bed recently purchased. It makes their stay at HSHPE that much more comfortable.

💙 Big Dan, is a BIG boy, weighing in at a whopping 130 lbs. He is on a journey to shed some lbs. and will enjoy a longer, healthier life because of it! Dan goes on daily walks with our volunteer team, and as you can see, makes himself quite comfy on his Kuranda Bed after his exercise routine.

Meet Froggy, a shy boy 2-year-old with a big heart!

If you give Froggy some time, space and patience while he settles so he can get comfortable and confident with someone, he has lots of love to give!

He greets people with soft high pitched meows and rubs on the bars of his kennel. He enjoys being petted but can occasionally get overstimulated as he is nervous and stressed in his kennel. He also loves to play with his toys when he thinks nobody is watching.

Meet Midnight!

Meet Scooter, a 5-year-old gal who was surrendered to the shelter due to no fault of her own.

She is shy to start and has a hard time settling into new environments. Scooter is looking for a quiet, low commotion home that she can relax comfortably in. Scooter is typically quite independent, but once she settles and gets comfortable she is a sweet girl who loves gentle head pets.

Scooter has only ever lived with one woman and hasn't been exposed to other animals so any introductions should be slow and gradual. She would likely prefer a home with no children or quiet children 12+ due to her shy nature. Staff are still getting to know Scooter and her personality.

All animals available for adoption at HSHPE have been vaccinated, microchipped and spay/neutered, and have been treated for internal and external parasites.

Adopters will receive a $25 gift certificate from Ren’s Pets and a pet care booklet from Pet Valu with coupons worth up to $300. Cat adoptions will also receive a coupon for a free 7lb. bag of World’s Best Cat Litter from Ren’s Pets. Plus, adopters who bring the paperwork from their HSHPE adoption to PetSmart Belleville or Kingston will receive a booklet with coupons worth up to $300.
