Baby Conures are learning to fly! This early flight training is so critical to help build strength, stamina, body awareness, confidence and trust of the human as a safe place to land.
When people ask if our babies are eager to come out ans socialize...
Update April 3, 2022: Yesterday this little fella was picked up by his new family. We had several fabulous applicants and it was not an easy decision but I feel so good about this match!
Hello Welcome Wings Crew!
We have a very special little fellow looking for a new beginning. He is missing his right leg, and is not tame, but under a year old and and has the most incredible zest for life. 🥺 I do feel he could become very tame with patience, respect and positive training methods. 🦜 🥰
If you think you might be the perfect person for this guy you can read his full story here: http://welcomewings.ca/available-birds-for-sale/
Nothing like a healthy breakfast at the beginning of the day!
A minute and a half of our day! These two were big explorers! Their sibling in the cage was also out to play but decide to head in a bit early — the door was open though and he came back out shortly after this video!
Early flight training teaches our babies how to come down when they find themselves a bit higher up than they expected their wings to take them!
Our babies learn important flight foundation skills before leaving our care! I have so many videos of these two like this...I wish Facebook would allow them all to be posted together!
First shower for the babies and they loved it!
Babies were outside for a mist shower today and enjoyed a rare seed-based treat as they sat with me on the deck!
Struggling to get your bird interested in fresh foods? Try having them “help” with the preparation. Parrots are naturally curious and will be more inclined to investigate something you are actively involved with, rather than a boring dish on the cage floor. Do your chopping ahead of time and then ring the bird out for the rest of preparation or use your hands to break apart foods like cauliflower instead of using a knife (safety first!)!
Flight training in progress! Success!
Flight training is my favourite stage of hand-raising. Not only does this help to exercise the chicks, but it also reinforces that the human hand is a safe, stable and trustworthy place for them to come to, which helps lay a good foundation for the new family. Our babies learn to fly to us from near, far, below (ascending with power) and above (descending with control — the most important skill) over their final weeks in our care.
Baby Conures LOVE Their Healthy Breakfast
Freshly baked Birdie Bread and vegetable “cho p” were on the menu again today. Our Conure babies dug right in!
Baby Conure Enjoying Outdoor Shower
Hot days mean outdoor showers for the older babies. This little Turquoise Pineapple Green Cheeked Conure had a ball!
Baby Conures Enjoy Outdoor Mist Shower
30 degrees means outside misting for the first time this year! Our Conure babies loved it! Note that water coming out of the hose is filtered and purified — exactly the same as our indoor drinking water.
Good morning from the Stage 2 Crew!
