We hope everyone had the happiest holiday season and rang in the New Year with their favorite humans and furry friends!!

We are so very grateful for the continued support our community has shown us in 2024. As has been on par for us in 2024, we have been behind on our social media posting and still have many great things to share to wrap up our 2024 year! Rescue work often feels like a rollercoaster, and after a challenging year, we’re ready to get off of the 2024 rollercoaster!

In complete transparency, it has been a pretty tough year behind the scenes for our team. From the heartbreaking losses to endless requests for helping animals, our team has struggled with compassion fatigue and burn out. While we strive to look at the positives, rescue work can take a toll on mental health. Our team is built of some of the best and most resilient animal lovers, but at the end of the day we’re still human and rescue work is hard on the heart.

One example of this is the requests for help, intake requests as we call them. This past year, an incredible 790 animals came into our care to be given a second chance at life and we helped 783 loving animals find their new homes!! We are so proud of this! …but some days it can be eclipsed by the continuous requests for help. Aside from the animals who did come into our care, we had over 400 intake request forms filled out from Calgary to as far north as the Northwest Territories. And that's just the ones who filled out the form; we received many more calls who didn’t. The widespread need highlights the overwhelming struggles faced by all shelters and rescues in our province.

That said, we are looking forward to a new year with exciting new plans and re-vamped programs which will help us grow our ability to help more animals. We aim to onboard more animal lovers as volunteers and foster homes as well as expand our team’s knowledge and develop new skills through continued learning.

Here's to a new year and new initiatives to help more lost souls find forever homes!!
