JADE is still searching desperately for her forever home! 🥺 She does need to be in a single dog home, but otherwise is a gem 💎 you're not going to want to pass up! "My days fostering Jade…
Let me first answer the burning question…I cannot adopt Jade because I live on acreage in British Columbia on which we already have 4 dogs. I am here on a short term basis helping my parents.
Jade is what I like to call a Heart Dog...dogs come in all shapes and sizes, and they affect us all differently. In my lifetime so far, I have been blessed to have loved about a dozen dogs, some lived with me and some belonged to friends. I love them all, but Jade is the second dog that has affected my heart. I cannot find the words to describe this feeling. I am in Taber for personal reasons and for an extended period of time, I missed my 4 fur babies so much that I kept looking on the Taber Lost Paws website for a small dog. I did see Jade, but she was bigger than I was looking for. I was given the opportunity to do a medical foster with Jade. This opportunity fed my need for some pup time. Jade is a loving and kind dog; I am a cancer survivor and in the past two weeks I found a lump which caused me incredible anxiety. Jade seemed to know this and would stay by my side and just be a sense of comfort, I did not share my fear with anyone because I did not want to cause anyone else to worry but Jade seemed to know and she simply "held my hand" for lack of a better descriptor. She has a calming effect on my parents who are dealing with the aging process so whenever one of them gets a little frustrated again, she knows and goes to them for some loving. She has not caused any issues in my parents' home, she eats well and on schedule, I take her for walks which also helps get my dad's wife out for fresh air which is important for her health. If by chance she needs to go out to do her business outside of the walking times, Jade will bark like a "hey, I gotta go", I have not found this annoying because as soon as she barks out she goes and she does her business.
More Jade facts...
· She knows how to sit, lay down, come, and we are working on heal
· She is super affectionate and when she wants her alone time, she has two places in our home that she curls up in
· She is not a “barker”. She will be vocal if she needs to go outside and do her business, she is also vocal if she cannot get to her ball
· We had to give her pills while she was here, and she takes those with a little cheese and no fuss
· She will tug on the lead a little when walking but 90% of the time she is fantastic. I do allow her sniff when she is called to do so, after all it is in their nature
· She is a heard dog so more times than not she dogs p**p near or under trees
· My father has always favoured biggish dogs, and her size is perfect for him. He has limited mobility and therefor Jade also offers companionship for him
· She does beg a little when we are eating at the table, but we discourage this behaviour
· We have not allowed her on the furniture, nor have we given her “people” food...update on this one...she does get on the bed occasionally
· On our walks we don’t often encounter people but on one occasion she is jump for some loving, sometimes when people cross our path, she gets agitated
· I walk her 3 times a day around 8am, 1-2ish, then at 8pm
· She sleeps well through the night update on this one...she did wake me up at 230am to go outside but in her defense when we went out before bed she did not p**p so at 230am she had to. I would rather get up and take her out then get up and clean up...

I would 100% keep her if my situation were different. If anyone is looking for a sweet, beautiful, loving companion…Jade is most definitely your girl"

Something as simple as a can of wet food or pumpkin will get you an invite ticket to our microchipping event! Can't make the event? That's okay! You can call us to schedule a private microchipping session (which is especially nice for reactive dogs). The microchip cost $15 cash at the time of microchipping, with all proceeds going towards your local Taber Lost Paws Society. 🐾

What a great way to protect your dog with modern identification, all while supporting a great cause! Can't wait to see you and all your precious doggos there! 🐕

Betty White was a well loved animal supporter who passed away on December 31, 2021. In honor of her memory and devotion to animal rights and welfare, shelters and rescues were flooded with donations on January 17th, 2022, which would have been Betty’s 100th birthday! In 2024, we raised over $1000 from the Betty White challenge thanks to our many amazing supporters.

❤️‍🩹 SAVING SHADOW 🖤

From a wet, cold, and undervalued life, to the chaos of a shelter and having around 250 rocks removed from his stomach. And now he has FAMILY. The kind that welcomes him to the couch, takes him for fulfilling walks and adventures, dedicates their lives to his continued training, guides him to gain confidence, and helps him be a dog again. 🐾 🏡

Jenelle swooped in when Shadow desperately needed saving. I remember passing her on the highway and seeing the look of despair and exhaustion on her face as she traveled to Calgary to rush Shadow after he unfortunately ate approximately 250 rocks. And from that second on, Jenelle knew that Shadow would come home with her. And that he did. A medical foster, turned into a foster fail. And now Shadow is ADOPTED!! 🤎

Shadow hasn't had it easy at all. He came from an unfortunate situation, had intense anxiety in our shelter, had issues arise in his first potential home, had surgery to remove the rocks, and completed a training program all in less than a year. He IS the definition of what it means to rescue. If Shadow could remind you all of anything it's that rescued dogs need time, patience, understanding, and training. He'd tell you to persevere and get help from the right resources because the reward will be worth it. He'd tell you that black dogs are just as good as the 'pretty dogs'. 🖤

And I KNOW he would tell you that the Robinson family is the best thing that's ever happened to him in his life. Congratulations Shadow, Jenelle, Travis, Joey, and of course Bow. 🥰

Everyone give a warm welcome to ✨️KALANI✨️

Kalani the magnificent shepherd is smart as a whip, full of happiness, resilient, love, and totally over being a shelter girl! She is approximately 3 years old, up to date and spayed, very friendly, can be dog selective within the shelter due to the anxious environment, but we believe this would be different with a good match and in a home environment. 🐾

Kalani came to us from 4 hours away at the Saving Grace Animal Rescue, where they are incredibly over capacity and overwhelmed, which is a normal day for them. Kalani is such a loving girl who would thrive in a home environment, and was clearly very overwhelmed with the chaos of the shelter life. So we scooped her up and are committed to giving her that life she's been dreaming of.

⚠️ SOS! Jade comes back to the shelter, Monday, January 13th, from her medical foster. Even though we adore Jade so very much, she does not thrive here due to the other dogs causing her a lot of anxiety. She checks off every single box but does require a single dog home. She is wonderful on leash, in public, amazing with kids, and an absolute joy to be around. If you are thinking about fostering, this would be an amazing opportunity! Kona: 8 and a half year old 90lb German Shepherd/Akbash. She is fixed. Amazing with people and especially kids. Has been raised around them since we brought her home. Anxious around cats as she has never been around them much but great with other dogs. Her temperament is very chill and loving!

Mocha: 7 year old 45lb German Shepherd Mix. Also fixed. We got her from a rescue so not sure of the exact breeds. She’s very timid around new people but once she warms up, she will want you to pet her for hours. She has an issue sometimes with girl dogs if Kona is with her as she’s grown to start to protect her. I’ve noticed if we introduce them properly, she doesn’t have a problem. But boy dogs there are no issues. In the last few weeks I’ve noticed that she definitely doesn’t like cats.

She has been with us for over 2 years now 🥺. Thankfully she has been in an incredibly loving foster home since, but she is more than ready to move on to a forever home.
