Yesterday, I stumbled upon this extraordinary caterpillar who much like myself, was out enjoying the lovely day and warmth of the sun. Amazed by it’s great size and stunning translucent green colour, I carefully moved the beautiful creature off of the potentially dangerous metal object that it was crawling on and gently placed it up into the safety of a nearby birch tree. As I watched it crawl away to live out it’s life, I was reminded of the beauty that surrounds us, nature’s precious gifts and our responsibility to protect them ❤️
🐛 In a few short days, this caterpillar will weave itself into a cocoon using it’s silk and the leaves of it’s host tree and in time emerge as a gorgeous Polyphemus moth 🦋

Say hello to Vino! Just like us humans, animals can suffer from dental issues as well. Vino is a senior guinea pig who recently celebrated his seventh birthday and due to his advanced age, doesn’t have any lower incisors anymore. This condition causes his upper teeth to quickly become overgrown, causing him discomfort and difficulty eating. Vino visits PAWS’ owner Jen every 3-4 weeks for a dental exam, tooth trimming and health check, allowing him to eat normally again and live a happy and pain free life!

Common pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice and hamsters all have open rooted front teeth, meaning that their upper and lower incisors grow continuously throughout their lifetime. Misaligned and overgrown teeth are fairly common problems with rabbits and guinea pigs particularly, so monitoring their oral health is vitally important to their overall well being and should be done on a regular basis.

While tooth trimming may seem like a simple procedure, it is NOT something that you should attempt on your own at home. Improper tools such as nail clippers, wire cutters, grinders and dremmels can all cause extreme pain and irreparable damage to your pet’s teeth. This skilled procedure requires the experience of your veterinarian or a trained professional.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day for GiGi and our flock of rescue animals to get out and enjoy the sunshine! Having been born into a factory farm, they’d never experienced the feel of grass under their feet or the warm sun on their faces until they arrived here at PAWS Pet Sitting. Now they spend their days doing what nature intended for them; foraging for bugs, eating the sweet spring grass and digging for worms. We’d like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and well wishes that we’ve received for Leander’s recovery! She is dealing quite well with the loss of her eye and has learnt to compensate in the best ways that she knows how. Today was the first day that we took her back outside and she immediately went back to her favorite pastime, splashing around in the water and hunting for worms! 🪱🦆❤️
