This week’s staff member feature is ✨Laura✨ - an OTJ trained tech and our true jack of all trades!

Laura has been at QVC since the summer of 1979. She has been a real force here on the QVC team ever since the day she was hired. Laura is a true gem and has been a mentor for many staff over the years. She has been here for the staff as well as our clients through everything, whether it is the tough decisions or the happy times.

We are excited (for Laura, sad for us!) to let everyone know that Laura has stepped back into a well deserved semi-retirement from QVC. She will still be here as needed, however it will be on a more casual basis going forward.

In her free time, you can find Laura spending her time ranching. She also enjoys spending quality time with her grandkids.

Thank you for everything you’ve done, and continue to do Laura! QVC is lucky to have you. 🩵🐾

✨Oscar✨

Oscar came to QVC a couple of months ago for his annual health exam. It was noted at that time that he was quite overweight and it was recommended that he go onto a diet. There are multiple methods for reducing calories in your pets diet - in Oscars case, RC Canine Satiety Support (a weight loss diet) was recommended.

Yesterday Oscar came to QVC for a weigh in and bloodwork. Oscars family has done their best to keep him on his diet with no treats. Even though he has been stealing snacks from his horse friends and the bigger dogs at home (😂), he has lost just under two pounds! That is a significant amount of weight for a small breed dog to loose. His bloodwork was excellent for his age - that combined with the weight loss is great news for Oscar and his family.

Oscar’s case is a great example of why it is important for your pet to have an annual health exam. With yearly exams we are able to catch disease and issues like obesity early.

🐾✨QVC is a privately owned, five veterinarian mixed animal practice that is always happy to accept new clients. Please do not hesitate to reach out to a member of our team to set up an appointment.✨🐾

✨Tamale✨ - an intensive care case from late last month.

Tamale presented for sudden onset of weakness, ataxia and no appetite. Her owner knew immediately something was wrong as this little Frenchie loves her food. Tamale was rushed into QVC and it was determined that she had blood in her abdomen.

Tamale required surgery to find the source of the bleeding but before that could happen, she required stabilization to give her the best chance of surviving through surgery. Her blood volume was so low that part of her pre-surgical stabilization plan was a blood transfusion. The race was on to find a blood donor and luckily, a friend brought their mastiff within 20 minutes of getting the call. Tamale was carefully monitored throughout her blood transfusion and responded very well to it. She was then ready for surgery.

Tamale made it through surgery and continued to improve throughout her hospital stay here at QVC. She was back to having a true Frenchie appetite and was eager to go home to her owner. This case was a perfect example of team work between the QVC staff involved, Tamale’s family and the blood donor family. We now joke that Tamale is part mastiff!

Tamale is doing great and is happy to be back home with her Frenchie family 🤍🐾

Today’s QVC meet the team member is ✨Brett✨ - one of our vet assistants.

Here at QVC we are very fortunate to have excellent vet assistants and Brett is no exception. Brett has been a part of our team since January 2020 and has been an asset since she started! Brett is cross trained for reception and sometimes you will find her up front answering the phones and greeting our clients. Brett’s friendly demeanour, positive attitude and experience have made her a key part of the goings on here at QVC.

Outside of work, you can find Brett riding her horses and competing with them at various barrel racing events. When she has free time she also likes to spend time having fun with her friends.

Thank you for everything you do, Brett! QVC is lucky to have you. 💚🐾

🛑 Bloody Picture Ahead! 🛑

Meet Stanley! A few weeks ago he suffered a trauma to his face. His owner hauled him to QVC for the wound to be assessed and treated.

Dr. Lukas Gerdes assessed Stanley and began the task of suturing his face. Facial lacerations can be difficult to suture due to the shape of the head and it being a high motion area.

Stanley was in for his suture removal last week and he is healing up great! He will end up with a bit of scarring due to the nature of the wound, however he will make a full recovery. Stanley’s owner did an excellent job taking care of the wound and ensuring that the sutures held until the recheck and removal appointment.
