Ongoing scratching +/- licking isn't normal! 🧐

Please check out: https://bit.ly/3SHqlEa to better understand the difference between normal scratching and those clues we're on the look out for... Not sure if you've ever had an itchy body part but it sucks big time and the sooner the skin barrier gets the support it needs the better!

Help stop the itch cycle!

Thanks ABVMA for sharing!

Another reminder for ! Talk to your veterinarian for a pet skin health check or wellness visit.

Hey Edmontonian Pet Families! Have your voices heard. Please take the time to complete the City of Edmonton Survey:

July 2, 2024 The City of Edmonton is renewing the Animal Licensing and Control Bylaw (Bylaw 13145) to promote responsible pet ownership and ensure safe, healthy neighbourhoods. Public engagement for this project is being conducted in two phases. Phase 1, held from May

In case you need to read this:

1) Yes, our🐕 & 🐈will need to drink more water as the temperature rises

2) Yes, they'll need more potty breaks as a result / this includes new after bedtime bathroom breaks (cat litters will need more daily scooping) 💦

3) No, restricting water isn't ever an acceptable solution. In fact, restricting our pet's water consumption can be extremely dangerous for them ⚠️

I recommend recruiting help (find your pet's community network) to get our dogs out for at least +5 extra short p*e breaks a day.

Do your best to keep pets cool (in the basement, using fans, putting ice packs on floor heat registers and turning on the furnace fan, staying at a friends with AC etc.)

Ultimately, try to find a place of patience & understanding if you're encountering frequent urinary accidents in the home... Our dog's urinary bladder only has so much capacity (and our cats hate using dirty litter boxes and will find another area instead) and it's really not their fault when they can't hold it any longer 🌊

Please don't leave dogs outside unattended or for more than 10 minutes at a time, the heat and air quality right now is toxic.

Stay cool! Thinking of you all! Xo

Big love,
Dr. Natasha P. Russell

Dogs have limited ability to sweat so the effects of a warm vehicle are exacerbated for our canine friends. A warm vehicle creates a potentially lethal environment in a very short period of time.

Any day above 15°C can be a risk, especially if the car is parked in the sun.

This means a dog can overheat and go into medical distress quickly.

🤬If you see a dog panting inside a vehicle, call 911.

Did you know that many common household items that are safe for people are toxic to pets?

As March is Pet Poison Prevention Awareness Month, it’s the perfect time to familiarise yourself with these household poisons that your pet may encounter (this is not an exhaustive list, but covers the most common poisons). If your pet ingests anything poisonous, contact your vet immediately – don’t wait for signs of poisoning to appear.

FRIENDLY REMINDER

Please remember to check your pet's EARS, GUMS & PAWS. These areas often get overlooked. I check these areas on my pets at least weekly. 👀

When it comes to their paws, please check not only the nails but between the paw pads and spilt the hair all the way down to the skin; pesky foreign objects and/or hair mats can cause grief in there.

Big love! Xo

Another story in the news about domestic violence ending in murder.

It's time that vets, school teachers, social workers, police and neighbours understand the Violence link and become strong allies and advocates for all victims (4 and 2 legged).

EXTREME WEATHER MEANS EXTREME MEASURES 😶‍🌫️
Please make sure to be present with our doggos when outside i.e. NO UNSUPERVISED OUTDOOR TIME FOR OUR PETS. ZILCH!

Meanwhile inside, please remember to also unplug any unnecessary electrical devices. When it's this cold out it takes a mega toll on our power grids and they can become vulnerable.

Lastly, please check in on our neighbours and keep a general eye out for anyone (2 legged or 4 legged) that may need our help in these frigid conditions!

Xo

Warm wishes,
Natasha & Juno

Good morning everyone! Wow! It's been a hot minute! BUT I wanted to get on here to give a huge shout out to the amazing bunch at Veterinary Hospital. They've pulled together over the last few months and helped raise $200 for my fundraiser 🥰 and their vet corporation also pulled together another $1500 to donate directly to the ABSPCA!! Woot! Woot! 🙌🏼

A special thanks to their Clinic Manager Erin, who walks the walk and is an all around special human who is very helpful and caring! Thank you!

FYI, we're almost at the half way mark!! AND my hair is getting way too long (I'm also not the only one donating, we've collected many more interested hair donors too). If you're interested in donating your locks to wigs for kids, hit me up!

Otherwise, for everyone else.. if you can, please donate: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-me-fundraise-for-an-important-cause

I'm so thankful for this campaigning time over the last few months! It's allowed for so many opportunities to share about the Violence Link and Human Animal Bond!

Thanks everyone for all of the love & support!

$10G we're still coming for you! 😅
