Read to the end…..From CKC Zone 10 Rep Re Stay Exercises:

The CKC Obedience Council had their first meeting Tuesday evening. The Group Stay Exercises was the only agenda item for this meeting.
This item has been identified as a priority by the council members and therefore to expedite the process, an ADHOC committee of five members of council was appointed. The committee plans to meet as many times as necessary over the next month to discuss, develop and define changes to the group stay exercises. The objective of the ADHOC committee is to have this task completed by the end of April and submit their proposals to the entire council for consideration @ the next council meeting to be held within 6 weeks.
There is a broad representation of zones on the subcommittee, including myself representing Zone 10.
The process for making rule changes requires a well defined motion being submitted to the Board by the Obedience Council. Since a motion of this nature would require changes to the rule books and the affiliated paperwork such as scoresheets and judges books it must be well organized and identify all the changes required.
I look forward to keeping members in this zone updated and will when the Council meets.
Zone 10 Obedience and Rally Rep. Eve O’Keefe.

VOLTAREN

Elaine Cousen just checked it out on internet:

Q: I saw a meme on Facebook saying that Voltaren pain cream is toxic to dogs and cats. Is that true?

A: Yes. Diclofenac, the active ingredient in Voltaren, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat osteoarthritis pain. The topical 3 percent gel is also used to treat a skin problem called actinic keratosis.

Voltaren comes in a gel/jelly, cream, spray and extended-release patch. If you pet your animal after applying Voltaren without washing your hands with soap and water, or if pets lick your skin where the medication has been applied or chew on the patch, they can develop gastrointestinal ulcers and kidney damage.

Update on Group Stays from the Zone 12 Obedience Rep.

The CKC Obedience Council met last evening with the express purpose of addressing the Group Stay Exercises.
A subcommittee was appointed to develop and define changes to the exercises to take back to the Council.
There is a broad representation of zones on the subcommittee, including myself representing BC.
I am pleased that the Council has identified this as a priority issue and I look forward to keeping you updated on the progress.

Another CKC title for Morgan. This time Rally Novice at the recent SKOC Rally Trial. It was a very challenging space. Very crowded with absolutely NO space to prepare your dog. But despite all that there were many moments of brilliance with some inattention. He qualified 4 out of 4 - his highest score being 196. Good boy.

I must admit to looking at the sky Christmas Eve. Not for Santa but for the brightest star in the sky. My Harley. My beautiful little man….and the tears fell…..

Taken from a fb post:
I understand how difficult it must be to spend Christmas without your beloved dog. The bond we share with our pets is truly special, and their absence can leave a void in our hearts.

**Christmas Without You**

Missing you this Christmas, my loving dog,
Gone but not forgotten, my faithful companion.
Your wagging tail and gentle eyes,
Brought joy and warmth, beyond the skies.

Through snowy days and cozy nights,
You were there, my guiding light.
Your pawprints etched upon my soul,
Forever cherished, a love untold.

As ornaments twinkle on the tree,
I feel your presence, so near to me.
Though you're not here to celebrate,
Your memory shines, never to abate.

So, this Christmas, I'll hold you dear,
In my heart, you'll always be near.
Though we're apart, our love remains,
Until we meet again…..

To all my friends and family I wish you a Merry Christmas. Here’s a blast from the past - Inca (Foxfold Inca Gold of Axelan) the matriarch and Axl (Gefni Night Navigator of Axelan) the patriarch of the Axelan Long Coated German Shepherds line. Great ambassadors of the breed sitting beneath the Christmas tree……

I need to write about normal.

An increasing number of people are giving up their dogs because they can't cope. However this seems to be because they do not really have an idea of what "normal" is and have a rather fantasy idea of what a dog should be.

Dogs are not people, however much we love them and it is important that this is realised.

The following things are all normal and any new dog owner needs to understand this:-
Puppies do not come ready trained and it is down to the new owner to work hard for a couple of years to do that training.
Puppies (all breeds) bite - it hurts.
Puppies chew stuff up. If you leave it lying around it will get eaten.
Puppies take a while to get house trained. The owner has to stand shivering in the garden at bedtime until the results happen. This can last for months.
Puppies - and indeed dogs - need to sleep a lot and should be left alone whilst doing so. They are not toys to be constantly carried around and petted.
Brain training toys do not make up for positive interaction and training with their owner.
Dogs rarely need clothes and wearing them indoors (except possibly for very old dogs) will make skin problems more likely.
Dogs don't necessarily like other dogs. They squabble can growl at each other and even fight. This is normal.
Bi***es come in season and have phantom pregnancies. These are normal body functions and should not cause anxiety.
Dogs and bi***es hump each other and objects. Not socially acceptable to humans but perfectly norma.
Dogs do not do spiteful or dominance or deliberate naughty or lots of other emotions people put on them They live for the day and can't differentiate between your new shoes and their toys.
If you spend your money in soft beds they will explode. The dog does not care how much it cost.
If a dog is bored or anxious it will chew stuff - this includes your sofa if you are daft enough to leave him unattended with it.

Dogs need exercise, love and attention and lots of training. They don't always get it right. If you can't accept all these normal things about a dog, please don't get one as the numbers being given up for normal behaviour is heartbreaking.
