PACK WALK WAS GREAT!
Paw Control Dog Training hosted its first trainer-led Pack Walk, held in Cookstown on the Trans Canada Trail. We had 5 dogs sign up, small to large, puppy to adult, each bringing their own brand of magic.
Most Obedient: Scarlett – an Australian Sheppard, a working breed, so that is a bit of an advantage. She was calm, cool and collected.
Most Adventurous: Caicos - at 5 months, she was the youngest, but you wouldn’t know it from her frequent attempts to lead her handler into farm fields.
Most Enthusiastic: Dublin – a Rhodesian Ridgeback who was super excited about pretty much everything. Combination sighthound and scenthound, what’s not to be excited about?
Most Determined: Wilbur – this English Bulldog not only finished the walk, he set the pace, walking out in front of the others. His owners helped him out with a stop at the creek to cool off.
We even had one little guy that practiced resisting the urge to chase bicycles, letting many go by unmolested.
Pack walks are a great way to exercise your dog, as well as practice obedience and loose-leash walking. They are also good socialization opportunities, for both canines and humans.
Each dog that participates is known to the trainer, maximizing the probability of positive interactions. Pack walks are by invitation only, which are issued to present and past Paw Control Dog Training clients, as well as our Volunteer Squad. Preparations are underway for our next socialization event, a Backyard Get Together.
