It's brilliant. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Veg in Yeg started out with a mandate to produce food in an #environmentallyconscious way, meaning: ⁣ 💚less gas consumption (we try to deliver by bike or on foot, and our soil cultivator is electric instead of gas-powered)⁣ 💚reusing materials (much of our equipment was bought #preloved, and we #reuse boxes and containers from grocery stores), and⁣ 💚#composting food scraps of the farm and surrounding community.⁣ We put the extra effort in to do business differently, because it's so worth it; for people and for the millions of species we share this planet with. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It was never our intention to use single-use plastic on the farm, but growing baby salad greens meant that we had to have a way to keep them fresh - plastic zip-lock bags were a great solution for that, but it made me feel so sad every time I packed one. Yes, they are recyclable, but the energy and gas consumption that goes into the whole process is just mindboggling: producing plastic--> transporting plastic--> transporting waste--> sorting waste--> transporting bails of recyclable plastic--> the recycling plant operation/formation of new product--> transport of new product... 😱 When you see this sign: ♻️ that is what it means. It's not really a solution 😔⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ To commit to sticking by our values, this year we will not be using new disposable plastic products. We will grow a smaller amount of baby greens for customers who are happy to bring a reusable container for them - you can make the container as large as you need, and as always 'pay what you want'. We will also have an option for you to pay a deposit on a container that we provide, and will collect and clean after each repeat delivery. Locally Grown Goodness

We are a social enterprise currently based in Garneau, Edmonton. We use underutilized spaces to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers for local consumption. We don't want anyone to miss out on this fresh, local goodness, so all of our products are priced as "pay what you want". Our unique pricing model is designed to help community members help each other. If you can afford to pay our suggested price (or even more!): your $$$ go directly to helping the community members who perhaps need to pay a lower price (or nothing at all) to access our fresh veg, judgement free. Income from sales goes toward paying a part-time, living wage to your farmers, and is invested back into improving Veg in Yeg.
