🚨Important Notice for Pet Parents🚨
If your dog frequents dog parks or indoor daycare facilities, please take a moment to read this.
A recent post from a local pet parent revealed a concerning situation involving dog lice (a type of sucking parasite that is highly contagious and spreadable). After visiting a dog park, they discovered multiple lice attached to their dog.
What you need to know about dog lice:
🔅 These parasites are specific to dogs (not transferable to humans) but can spread quickly between dogs in shared spaces.
🔅 Dogs at daycares, parks, and other social environments are at higher risk.
🔅 Symptoms may include itching, hair loss, or visible parasites on your dog’s coat and skin.
How to check your dog:
❇️ Inspect your dog’s coat closely, especially around the neck, shoulders, and tail area.
❇️ Look for small brown or tan parasites or eggs attached to the fur.
If you suspect lice:
💢 Avoid bringing your dog to shared spaces until they are fully treated.
💢 Contact your veterinarian immediately for proper diagnosis and treatment options.
💢 Clean your dog’s bedding, grooming tools, and any items they frequently use.
Prevention tips:
❇️ Keep your dog on a year-round parasite prevention program (consult your vet).
❇️ Regularly check your dog’s coat after visits to dog parks, daycares, or boarding facilities.
❇️ Inform your local daycare or park about any concerns to help prevent further spread.
